In my choices I am assuming the Saints drop a game or two before the season is over, and don't win the division. So I am rooting against all the teams with 4 or 5 losses.

NEGA SAINT. NOT ALLOWED. that's precisely what I did. and I took some heat for it, but that's OK.

I would have changed that attitude/outlook had the Jets beat Seattle or the Cardinals beat the Falcons recently.

100% agree. if the saints had one extra win or the falcons had one extra loss, it would be a total different story.

I'm saying that IF the Saints want to make the playoffs, they HAVE TO GO 6-0 AND get some help. Anything less would result in missing the playoffs, IMO.
Highly doubtful. The Vikings have an absolutely brutal schedule, and if they do win out, that means the Bears are in a major tailspin and likely to miss the playoffs. It's fair to assume the NFCN will have a wildcard, but they almost certainly won't have two. Seattle almost certainly won't go undefeated with games against SF and Chicago. IMO, they lose both. We will hold tiebreakers with them unless they lose to both Buffalo AND Miami, at which point they'll almost certainly be out of the playoffs anyway. We need to beat Tampa and really don't want to lose to Dallas. If we don't beat Tampa, we're going to have trouble getting in. If the Falcons beat Tampa this week (and we beat TB later in the season), that goes a LONG way in giving us leeway to lose a game. Basically: Atlanta beats TB we beat TB we beat Dallas if those three things happen, then the only thing really forcing us to go undefeated the rest of the way would be if Seattle loses only one game. That's certainly possible, but I think they lose two. Yes, being two games behind the Falcons in two weeks would be nice. But their remaining games are @Panthers (suck), Giants at home (inconsistent, not playing good football at all right now), @Detroit (mediocre), and TB at home (definitely loseable). I don't trust them losing that many games, not to mention if they DO lose that many, it pretty much forces us to go undefeated to keep up with TB.

Yeah, Detroit isn't mediocre. They only have 1 bad loss, in overtime on the road to the Titans. They were within one score of both Green Bay & Chicago and only 8 point loss at San Fran.

With victories over St. Louis, Jacksonville, and Philly. They have one good win over Seattle (who isn't that good on the road). They're 4-6. They're 23rd in points allowed, don't have a good running game, and Stafford is 21st in QB rating. They're mediocre. Chicago, Green Bay, Minnesota, Atlanta, TB, New Orleans, San Francisco, New England, Baltimore, Pittsburgh (with Big Ben), Houston, Denver. That's 12 teams clearly better than Detroit. That puts them at no better than the 13th best in the NFL. Seattle, NYG, Dallas, Cincy, and Indy all have better records and would be favored over Detroit on a neutral field. They're mediocre.

I say root for Chicago to lose, Green Bay to win and win that division. Chicago may go into a tailspin and fall all the way from wildcard grace completely. Then there would be two potential wildcard spots for us to try to climb up to.
They've looked awful 2 weeks in a row. Agree with this statement!

Again, a Chicago tailspin is good news for the Vikings, who are a game ahead of us. It's going to be difficult to surpass Chicago, even with a tailspin. Plus we really want Chicago to beat Seattle.

minny has Chicago and GB twice, and houston thrown in there with the rams. the bears have it a bit easier with minny twice, seattle, lions, GB, cards. which is why I chose them over minny. eta: and minny has 4 road games. chicago has 3.
Good info. I guess we just have to hope they both beat Seattle, lose to Green Bay and and split their head to head to end up closer to .500

I think Minnesota collapses too. I would love to have 2 spots to play for.

Watching Texans/Lions... To what degree does a Houston win help us or Detroit win hurt us? I don't know how Detroit factors into the post season picture

We want Detroit to lose. Always root for AFC over NFC.

I understand that but how much does the outcome matter? Is Detroit a contender?

if they were to somehow win out, they could possibly sneak in. they are at 4-6 currently

Detroit is 4-6 so a loss today would basically eliminate them. That's one less team we would have to worry about.
