Post MBA Job Options

So I'm finishing up my first semester and on break I plan on doing a lot of research and work on career stuff. My general feeling is I have 3 main options when I graduate. Industry(O&G likely since its what I do now), Finance, or Consulting. I was initially high on consulting but after learning some more about it I'm not exactly sure its something I want to do. The travel and hours don't exactly justify the pay. I've started doing more research for IB firms and thinking about potentially doing something industry specific like Simmons. From what I gather its long hours also but with less travel than consulting and potentially more pay.

Just wanted to get some peoples opinions on potential job markets as I plan on casting a wide net and really narrowing it down as I do some research this winter break.

Thanks

Can't be answered without knowing where you're getting your MBA. I hope it's not LSU if you're thinking about consulting or IB.

I work with several UT MBAs. Good school. I'd personally avoid IB - I don't think 80 hour work weeks are worth the paycheck. I work in O&G and I prefer it.

What's your background? Are you trying to switch careers or industries or both?

Those are basically all of the options. During the admissions process, what did you tell them your goals were?

A fourth option you may want to consider is private equity (technically falls under finance but you only mentioned IB). Take my opinion with a grain of salt, but from what I gather from my own research, it seems a lot of O&G groups like to have a couple guys with engineering experience for the operational side. I assume the background helps to some degree in equity research as well. I don't know enough to comment on how PE analysts' hours compare to what an IBD associate works.

Wall Street Oasis has good info amidst a shitload of trolling and uninformed clowns. Also, there's a poster on here that might be of help if he/she sees this thread.

1 year in manufacturing, 4 years in R&D, 2 years operations, all with oil service company.

I'm really just keeping my options open. At the very least I'd like to get a job with an operator, I don't plan on staying with my company. That's what this whole process is about, really doing some research about what I want to pursue during recruiting next fall.
