| Papa Johns CEO responds to Affordable Healthcare Act media issues ... (Posted on 11/21/12 at 2:01 am)
Pretty Straight Forward
quote:
Reporter: "My understanding is that if you're a full time employee, which is 35 hours or over, you'd be covered. Or if you're part time then you wouldn't be. So wouldn't some business owners just cut people down like 34 hours a week so they wouldn't have to pay for health insurance?" Me: "It's common sense. It's what I call lose-lose."

He's taken a lot of heat for this. One one hand it's not his fault for doing whats best for his business, on the other hand he is undermining the purpose of the law.

Everyone is going to do this. Which will then revert the money to cover costs back to the taxpayers. Everyone knew this was coming.

Props to him for doing this, I hope more companies come out and do the same.

I think he just likes the attention. If you eat at Papa John's you should be careful, the potentially uninsured are preparing your food.

See the above post. Enjoy paying for it in taxes then... so corporations will get the tax breaks and then they'll be able to have the tax payers cover health care because they out smart the system.

What exactly is the purpose of the law? To take away his property and use it as government desires. When the government does this to you in the form of income taxes do you try and minimize your taxes, or do you send the government as much as possible since the purpose of the law is to take your property and use it for their own desires?

no, he is going to do no such thing. The franchise owners make the decisions on each stores healthcare. did you even read the article, or are you just dense?

Jesus. Yes I know that, it's pretty clear just in the quote in the OP.. He's advocating cutting people down under full time to save on health care. I think you just misunderstood me, and I wasn't very clear in the way I put it.

If you read the whole article you have a comprehension issue. He never advocated cutting hours. Nice try on the spin, but a failure just the same.

He states that many of the franchisees may do that but I have to ask how many pizza store employees work full-time with benefits anyway. He does go on to say that none of this applies to corporate employees who will continue to receive health insurance coverage.

Yeah, but everybody forgets that compensation (including health benefits) drives the quality of your workforce. Providing HC and NOT cutting hours may be best. If you're cutting hours, you'll have to hire more part time employees (who will also have other part time jobs to make up the difference in time/pay)....so...you have more employees working fewer hours (thus avoiding HC rules), but each employee has far less 'invested' in that job.

I find it funny how now those that don't own businesses are coming out to give advice to those who are extremely successful in what's best for them!

You can't tax business's or corporations dude. You can only tax people. When they talk about raising taxes on business they are talking about raising taxes on people, which then reverts right back to the consumer.

Pass the cost along to your customers. Employers are better able to cost spread than the average consumer of healthcare. Raise the price of your pizzas, Papa John, that's the whole fricking point. The man simply doesn't care about his employees; only about making a political statement. His pizzas are still good, though.

This is one of those platitudes like "everybody knows you always increase revenue when you cut taxes".

No, we understood. It's exactly what should be done. You seem, like most clueless liberals that business exists to provide jobs to it's employees. Business exists for one purpose, and one only. To turn a profit, the size of said profit to be determined only by the owner of said business.

Common sense rears its ugly head again. lets face it people. when I was 16 and barely able to do my homework without being reminded by my mother I could make a pizza...make a burger...make a taco...sweep floors... the point is, these are entry level positions which don't warrant household-sustaining pay rates for those unlucky enough to fill them. At some point rational human beings need to stop and say "look...we just can't pay you 30k a year plus benefits to mop a papa johns...And we aren't at all sorry." Also, at what point did the ACA contain a tax break for anyone? Thought there was a penalty (I'm sorry a tax ) for those businesses that didn't supply HC to its employees?
