How high end? You can spend $100 or $1500.

I carry a benchmade mini griptillian that's proven very durable over several years. Not sure what you consider to be high end. This one was bout a hundred bucks.

Just get him a case, buck, or schrade pocket knife. I wouldn't go high end unless your are 75 and your son is 50 years old. You know what I'm saying?

I've got a $250 Microtech, but I wouldn't buy one for my son unless he was 30 or better.

I would customize a full size griptilian on benchmade's website. You can choose grip color, hardware color, blade shape and material. You can also have it engraved.

Get him a Spyderco Military. Solid knives and not too pricey If he were younger, I would have suggested something smaller because it is somewhat big for a folder, but for an adult it is fine. Knife works.com does engraving ETA: From what I have found, you are either a Benchmade fanboy, or you like Spyderco knives. I have had many knives, including 2 Benchmade and 4 Spyderco knives. Spyderco has better edges, the hole for opening is much better than the studs, and I intensely like the G10 handle on my Military. You can also move the clip around to any position your little heart desires. This is what I have Sptderco Military Part Serrated

Hyperbole? I like the half serrated edge. Used to only prefer straight until I really needed a knife to cut some serious mooring ball line hung in a prop. Next thing we will be comparing Glocks and 1911s or .243s and -08s.

Of course hyperbole, but true nonetheless. And they do a half serrated if I'm not mistaken. Not that you'd need it.
