They are impressive for sure. I can appreciate anything with that kind of workmanship. I just don't think I could get into collecting them. I've just never really viewed a knife as something that should be converted to art. Sorta like hammers 
No doubt that they are beautiful though. Anything involving ivory has to be a fine piece of work.

My old man has one with a Mastadon handle. Damn knife is so fine though it just looks like it really needs to be used on a deer.
Hasn't happened yet but I sure want to.

Now wait a waffle head swinging second. When I did construction I had a framing hammer with an octagonal head and semi straight claws. The head was fastened to the handle with a wedge from my grandfathers old hammer and the end sealed with heavy varnish. The handle was hickory with heavy grain showing and the grip had been shaved and sanded to perfectly fit my hand. It was smooth and shiny with the oil from my skin. It was a piece of art in it's own right.

 Oh I know, but I haven't had the oppurtunity to talk about that old hammer yet.
I don't routinely buy things for their ornamental value either. If it ain't functional I am not interested.
