Choke tube stuck Update

The choke tube is stuck barely sticking out of my Xtrema. If I put it in the vice and really get down on it I think I can get it. If I screw the threads up can a gun smith fix it. Help me out here

Wrapped the end with a towel and banged on it with a ball peen hammer and it freed it up.

re: Choke tube stuck Update
I started to ask a few questions to get clarification, but they the questions came out to "dirty". Just tell us what happen to allow the gun to get in this current condition. Pics might help...

re: Choke tube stuck Update
A gunsmith will be able to rethread it. I had a problem with mine as well but I caused the problem. I just decided to make mine a 26in barrel from a 28in. Gunsmith said he could either rethread as a 28 or cut off 2 inches and rethread. I not prefer the little bit shorter barrel.

my gf brought mine in to Jim's and they got it loose for free. if you have a good looking gf ask her to bring it in to the local gun shop/smith. it worked for me. good luck.

I guess just see if you can get it out and then see if the threads are shot. A gunsmith can cut the barrel and re-thread it if you frick it up. Threads might be ok if you get it out though as long as it wasn't cross-threaded.

re: Choke tube stuck Update
This is my xtremas 13th season. It was a demo gun Simmons got. The first one sold around these parts up here. In those 13 seasons the most days in a season it has misses is 12 because of surgery. It's time for a new one but it's been so good I hate to get one. As far as dirty goes, it's been takin care of but it's not like I take the choke out and oil it every hunt, or very often for that matter. I guess I will have to start though

I had this problem on a 870 Remington several years ago. I purchased one of those big arse jugs of WD-40 and took the barrel off the shotgun and stood it up in the jug for a couple of days. It screwed out with minimal effort after soaking. Just a suggestion.

That's usually what I suggest.

I would think a type of penetrating oil would be better.

PB Blaster typically works better than WD40 as a penetrant. If it is stuck like Chuck, soak it for a couple of days

Haha I have an extrema and had same thing happen. I soaked it everything under the sun. Bend numerous choke tube wrenches. It eventually came out. So good luck

That's called "pickling" it... we used diesel back in the day.

re: Choke tube stuck Update
Put it in the jug of penetrating oil (or WD-40) -- upside down, just like the other guys said.

It'll come out -- but why a vise?? Put the barrel in the gun, hold the gun firmly and use a choke tube wrench to loosen the choke (after 24-48 hours in the oil.)

Just be patient.

AFTER you get it out, clean all the threads (on the choke tube and in the barrel), then put some grease on there. Briley sells choke tube grease, and so do several companies that market gun lube products.

The grease that Briley sells is a lot thicker than the stuff you'd put on a fishing reel. And it's obviously thicker than the oil that Beretta recommends. But it's thinner than wheel bearing grease. You just want something that won't migrate - and that'll keep choke tubes from getting stuck.
