I've forgotten more about the Civil War than you will ever learn. I suppose you were cool with Germany rolling through Poland to protect East Prussia.

quote:
Most Americans consider Abraham Lincoln to be the greatest president in history. His legend as the Great Emancipator has grown to mythic proportions as hundreds of books, a national holiday, and a monument in Washington, D.C., extol his heroism and martyrdom. But what if most everything you knew about Lincoln were false? What if, instead of an American hero who sought to free the slaves, Lincoln were in fact a calculating politician who waged the bloodiest war in american history in order to build an empire that rivaled Great Britain's? In The Real Lincoln, author Thomas J. DiLorenzo uncovers a side of Lincoln not told in many history books and overshadowed by the immense Lincoln legend. Through extensive research and meticulous documentation, DiLorenzo portrays the sixteenth president as a man who devoted his political career to revolutionizing the American form of government from one that was very limited in scope and highly decentralized—as the Founding Fathers intended—to a highly centralized, activist state. Standing in his way, however, was the South, with its independent states, its resistance to the national government, and its reliance on unfettered free trade. To accomplish his goals, Lincoln subverted the Constitution, trampled states' rights, and launched a devastating Civil War, whose wounds haunt us still. According to this provacative book, 600,000 American soldiers did not die for the honorable cause of ending slavery but for the dubious agenda of sacrificing the independence of the states to the supremacy of the federal government, which has been tightening its vise grip on our republic to this very day. You will discover a side of Lincoln that you were probably never taught in school—a side that calls into question the very myths that surround him and helps explain the true origins of a bloody, and perhaps, unnecessary war. The Real Lincoln
US Presidents were puppets of the elite even way back then....Imagine that.

I'm pretty sure the German's stated goal in the invasion of Poland was to acquire Danzig, not to "protect" East Prussia. And considering an entire German Army Group invaded Poland from East Prussia, I don't think it needed any real "protecting".

I'll stay grounded in my books thank you Whether a movie is good or not has nothing to do with historical accuracy. I just hope its a good movie. Its also funny how some here view this time of CIVIL WAR as a kind of high water mark of freedom, civility and rights. Har har. What utter bufoonary. Civil conflicts are the ugliest examples of war and sorry to say not breeding grounds of good behavior. I would expect any leader elected or not to do their utmost to preserve the counrty as they know it. I was born in S. Carolina but harbor no illusions as to the root cause of the war of rebellion. A institution of enslavement and forced labor of our fellow man for profit. No slavery...no war of rebellion. The cases of horrible errors by politicians, the military and civilians on both sides are numerous. The things done right. The bravery and sacrifice on both sides cast a long shadow over all those who belittle those finer things done for a list of reasons as long as the toll of the dead.

If this board disagrees with the movie and thinks it is stupid, it is DEFINITELY worth a watch and probably very factually accurate.

Anyone who tells a story by way of a history book, movie or even the Bible is doing just that, telling a story. That's all we have documenting history. To be negative and not be willing to view or read because of what ever reason, robs one of knowledge. If you have a brain use it. If you fear watching a movie because of who directed it, then I have to say that is pretty lame. My independence is based on listening to both sides of any story and then letting my brain decide what I believe. To fear anyones telling of a story prevents knowledge and growth.

Fear? That's like saying I don't want to listen to Michael Moore because I'm afraid of his message. I don't want to listen to Michael Moore because he is a documented liar and blowhard and it's not worth my time.

All I know is I enjoy listening to what someone has to say. And then making up my own mind. To not listen and have an opinion is shallow.

No thanks! The movie was screened at the White House, before it was shown to the public. That there was enough to keep me away from seeing the flick. I'll stick to the history books. But if you want to get an idea about what is happening in America under BHO I suggest you read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. That book pretty much describes what is happening here in the Democratic Socialist Fatherland formerly referred to as The United States of America. Heil Mein Fuhrer!!

I'm seeing this on Thanksgiving. Does the movie include the Gettysburg address?

Thanks for saving me $10 and a half day, JB. I suspected as much. I had even posited an earlier idea that the Left is greasing the wheels for an Obama Executive overreach, when the Red States tell him to f off; and take his mob rule version of *Democracy* with him. I'm sure it'll get the big portion of Academy Awards. Whoppee. Like Arafat and Obama's Nobel Prize...propaganda props. The dupes and useful idiots will lap it up; though it will be way over the head of most of the Left base. Pathetic. And costly. Live and learn.
