Ok, this is as simply as I can explain it, I think.
Find an image you want. Click on it.
Click "Full Size Image" to see the image by itself:
Copy the URL from the top of the screen:
Go to imgur.com and click on web (If you have the file saved to your computer, you click computer.)
Paste the address where it says "enter URL's to upload" (you can even push ctrl+v if you're feeling frisky.)
You should see a thumbnail show up at the bottom of that screen. Then click start upload.
Edit the size down by clicking "edit image" in the top right. Once done, copy the direct link and paste it into the avatar spot.
If you can't get it after this, you're probably shite out of luck unless you can pay one of the neighborhood kids a nickel to do it for you. If you did get it,

Also, if he just wants an avatar, all he needs to do is post the pic and someone would host it for him.

Nope. I'm at home with a PC. Windows XP.
I did note that some one said imgur.com doesn't require you to register. There was an option to register. But since the other attempts failed I didn't try.

I have no idea what 'tolling' is. But when I attempt to register the response is 'case sensitive'. I have no idea what case sensitive means.

I liked the old format better because i'm lazy and i'm not going to do all that shite just to upload a picture.

I realize that you all are having fun with my computer illiteracy. And I appreciate all of the attempts to help. But when I first came here it took me 10 seconds to register. Same with other sites. Never more than 10 seconds.
I've spent over an hour trying to post pics 'hosted' on the listed sites. I can't do it.
I'm giving up. If I want a new avatar soon I'll post the request here and someone can do it for me. Many thanks.

It prevents malware, spam pop ups and hopefully a big virus. Chicken probably realized that hosting Avi's and sigs on this site from some different sites that were shady at best is just asking for trouble. There were already numerous Avi's and sigs inducing malware. That's likely what prompted this security measure. I would do the same thing too if I were chicken. He went to reputable and trusted sites like photobucket, and imgur.
With this site getting bigger and getting more and more members in the process, it was only a matter of time before someone with an Avi or sig that is hosted on a virus ridden site would've totally screwed up TigerDroppings.
ETA: This format is actually pretty easy when you get the hang of it. It's not a difficult concept to grasp.
