Dog ?

Choosing between a black lab and a catahoula. Looking for a inside outside dog also a guard dog for when I'm not home. Pretty much gonna be the wifes dog.

Lab.

Or if you want something that will defend her to the death, get a BMC.

No idea on cat, but labs inside are a disaster.

A little yappy dog makes a fantastic alarm system.

I used to completely agree, but the one I have now behaves perfectly inside. Even when I have to leave him inside by himself I know he won't mess with anything. Don't know if I just got a really weird lab or if he actually took that part of training.

You got a weird lab

They are great inside once they get a few years on em in my experience, but an 8 month old bored lab is a sofa shredder.

I had a catahoula inside in college. Great dog. Still have him, going on 13 yo and he still trys to slip inside when he can
Ive had labs too and there is no comparison. No way in hell Id have a lab inside before hes 5 yo. They are way too hyper.

re: Dog ?

He did eat two whole pumpkin pies at Thanksgiving when he was 6 months old. Wife was furious, I was impressed. Licked the pans so clean that my wife thought someone had put clean pie plates on the floor.

We were home then, so you can't blame that on being left alone.

Black Mouth Cur. Mine mostly lives inside with me but they are so sensitive they make really great womens dogs. They'are ALWAYS on guard. Wherever you are. But easily controlled. But scary as frick when they catch someone too close. The thing about them dying for you... I completely believe that based on mine.

Just a really intelligent all around useful dog and great pet.

This is why I recommended them if it was going to be the wife's dog. We had two of them growing up. Both were females and both were fearless and protective. Usually would display agressive but would be really friendly once they knew you were good with the person that was at the door. Had one of them bite through tires on vehicles on two occassions.

Mine hasn't torn up anything but a shoe since she's been here.

She's also ridiculously chilled out when she's inside though.

There was nothing sensitive about the BMC I had. He was a damn killing machine.

My lab tears up stuff outside but won't touch a thing inside. He just lays around all day when we aren't there. 7 yo.

re: Dog ?

I got my lab at 3 months. I think he ate up his pillow thing once in his kennel. Nothing else ever and he is 4yrs old now. He has been perfectly behaved roaming around inside since he was maybe 8 months(right after I bought a bark collar). Never had a lick of trouble since

I've also had a bunch of friends with labs and no problems after a year or so. Yall must have some little bad asses

ETA:
I still don't think enough people whip their dogs into shape when they are younger. I did it, and had a buddy tell me the other week,"Damn, I used to hate on you for whipping your dog when he was little, but that is the most well behaved dog I have ever seen". Only had to get after him once in the past 2 years. Usually, the people that bitch about me doing it are the ones whose dogs are always on the sofa, eating food off of the table, and shitting in the house.

Thanks for all the input. Googled the blue lacy and BMC. Both look like outstanding dogs.

re: Dog ?

Best dog I ever had was a Catahoula. She was a "failed" hog dog that was absolutely as protective of wife and kids as any dog I ever had.
Tuffy never chewed up anything we had and was as pleasant a dog as you would ever find. Just don't make any threatening moves!
