I just can't get into a non-functional knife. Sorry, to practical. Nice to see the artistry, but my knives are worn down by my carbide sharpener, and only pretty, to me....But, they get the job done.

I don't know well how blood and intricately carved ivory go together...
For those that don't know the blades with the pattern is call damascus steel and is formed by hand folding and beating steel over and over to form patterns. It was also used for gun barrels before fluid steel...

I used to troll the knife forums every now and then. Those guys get rid of knives 2 weeks after they buy them. Spend $2000 on a knife. Sell it for $500 two weeks later. You can easily get a very nice knife for a steal.

My uncle made blades when i was a child. Ive seen damascus steel being made so i know how the ripples are put in but i for the life of me cant figure out how this pattern is put into a blade.

There are some real talented folks making knives and some stupid money being spent on them.
I bought a George Herron knife a few years ago off a guy that was on hard times and needing cash. Knowing very little about knives the guy told me it was worth a lot of money and that he'd be back for it when he got ahead. Fast forward a few years and I'm still sitting on the knife and I havent seen the original owner in years. I posted it on a knife maker/collector forum and had offers in excess of $2,000 for it within an hour.
I ended up keeping the knife but was also introduced to Herron's protege named Wayne Hendrix and got several knives from him that I use regularly while hunting. A good custom knife blows most of the production knives out of the water. Unbelievably sharp and very durable...
