I don't think anyone is allowed to self distribute in LA.
Abita was originally able to do it, but they had to open up a separate business space.

So they had their own distribution company, basically? Similar to how the Abita Brewpub isn't owned by the brewery?

if a beer stands the test and people demand it from stores, which is where the consumer has a voice, then the distributor will respond or another will...that is America. I like some craft beers, but there are a ton that are terrible and even some that are good are somewhat inconsistent. There is no strong arm tactics, and the concept of it is a little ignorant. The lack of demand is what keeps most craft beer unavailable.

If I wanted to support Tin Roof or Parish by buying their beer, I have to buy it from Mockler. Unfortunately the breweries have to make money to survive regardless of the quality of their beer. So new breweries get approached by a distributor who has access to a bunch of markets which means more exposure for the little guys. So you are in a catch 22 as a consumer and as a small brewery.
No doubt. Ignoring the big 3 distributors and going with small independents would inadvertently take out some craft brewer market in this area. However, if there was a true concerted effort a craft brewer wouldn't commit to Mockler or the like. Like I said, it is a cop out or at least hypocritical to shun Big 3's attempt to have a craft line while giving money to the goon squad hired to carry out their hits.

the BMC portfolio, as does Bass, Hoegaarden, Pilsner Urquell, etc.
How does one find out exactly which brands are actually produced by one of the BMC corporations? I like Hoegaarden and will prolly continue to drink. Has anyone gobbled up the Budvar or Chekvar labels yet?

They are independent as far as I know. Ironically Budweiser markets/distributes them in the USA.
