It really wouldn't have mattered. Look at Alabama. They don't have to have any good east teams on the schedule to still be sitting as the highest one loss team.

I agree that the SEC should rotate the non division games. I agree the current permanent opponent isn't fair. But we are where we are because the O was putrid v Florida and honestly Florida while ranked highly isn't that good And we are here because we pissed the Bama game away with poor coaching decisions, stupid penalties, missed FG and poor play in final 2 minutes of each half on D. This LSU team regardless of SEC scheduling should have found a way to win one of those games. If it makes folks feel better to bitch about Slive ok. But this team had a chance to be a 1 or zero loss team and we did not get the job done. It sucks but let's not whine about the schedule. We still have a shot at a BCS game and a one in a million shot at BCSCG.

It's not just the four team stranglehold. Do you think Ole Miss wants to give up Vandy as their permanent? Moo State wants to give up UK???

I whine about the schedule every year. I whined about it last year before the NC game. It's fricking retarded and will never change. Why does OM want to vote to play tougher teams in the east more regularly? Problem is, we have no leadership to do the right thing at the top. Slive is a clown.

Are Bonnette and Miles also against the prevent defense? Tennessee was a strong team at the time the original permanent opponents were set up. Even if "permanents" were taken away, relative rankings in the east and west would still be subject to the randomness in quality of out-of-division opponents.

Your point? The random selection is still exceedingly more equitable and fair than the current system.

If you are trying to make a case that your team is the best in the country, it should be able to handle all opponents anyway. If they happen to line up as a tougher slate of opponents, then that only helps your case among others with similar records. Better schedule strength is also a win for the fans. Teams in different conferences and different divisions have always had different schedule strength, so this is nothing new. Being afraid that your team will not be able to claim the title as nation's best because the opponents are "unfairly difficult" doesn't have much merit.

Alabama has one loss. Alabama is seated ideally to go to the NC despite that loss. Alabama didn't need to play anyone in the east to have that lofty standing. So why is it important to play UF? The SEC has won the last 6 titles. Winning the SEC is pretty much a prerequisite to jumping every other one loss team regardless of schedule.

Just waiting for the "you're scared" argument. I don't give a shite about the perception of our fanbase as being scared because we would rather have a fair rotation that places us on equal footing from a scheduling standpoint than the other teams in OUR conference. It's fricking insane to me that people don't understand how this is bull shite.

Bayoutiger - if you trade lsu's schedule for Alabama who do you think is going to the bcsnc? That is the point. It is very simple.

LSU But excuses are excuses and there is only one champion. If LSU executes against either Florida or Alabama, then the schedule is more a help than a hindrance (against other one-loss teams). There is always luck involved in a championship run, not only with scheduling but also injuries and how your opponents play on a given week. LSU knows all about the good fortune that plays into titles (2007). The Tigers played their hearts out against Bama and have had a great season, even though they may not win the national title.

Simple fact of the matter is that LSU is a likely participant or has a fairly decent shot at the NC this year if we play UK instead of UF. We didn't in large part because of the stupid scheduling format.

But it's easier to beat "any team" when you have cupcakes in between. Having an easier schedule helps your team rest players, not have to get "up" for as many games, and possibly less total injuries. It's just easier not having to be at the top of your game every week. 2 easy games (MO, TN) is a big deal in the SEC.

Im sure oregon would have loved to beat us last year. They basically cost them a shot by scheduling us. Its not how good the teams are. its the fact i want to see diff teams more often.

IF you keep the permanent cross-divisional rival why not move to 9 Sec game schedule and for the other two nonpermanent match ups rotate one slot and base the other on a power ranking system (based on previous year results and taking into account power rankings of a teams permanent and rotated opponent)? Basically use one game to fix disparities like this year (i.e. Bama and Georgia would have played each other this year as the 3rd sec power ranking matchup). I like playing UF but miss the annual game LSU had with Kentucky (played every year from 1952-2002), and its not right that teams like LSU and UF get essentially screwed in order to make a couple of teams happy. Really the only other equitable solution is to reorganize the conference to place the teams that are pushing to keep their annual match ups in the same division so they can play every year without screwing up cross-divisional scheduling.
