I hate what is going on now, just like everyone else - but I have family over there. Thankfully, most of them are not in the Occupied Territories (Gaza and the West Bank). Believe it or not, but all Palestinians are not Muslims, and they don't (as a whole) celebrate it when bad things happen to our country. Those who truly know the Arabic culture understand that it is very different to our everday American culture. It is very warm, and very diverse. For those who don't understand the diversity - it can range from Christian to Muslim, to the different sects of Islam. I believe that Jews have the right to call the Holy Land their homeland, but so do Muslims and Christians. It's just amazing to me that WE Americans are having such a hard time promoting equality and liberties for all. Frustrated that our country and a majority of population are so accepting of our policy supporting a country that punishes civilians for being a certain religion. Because that is exactly what we do.

Cutting military aid to Israel and Egypt would save us 4 billion a year. I could live with it

Exactly. I'm presently reading a book by Michael Scheuer titled, "Marching Toward Hell". Mr. Scheuer is a retired veteran with the CIA and headed the agency's Osama bin Laden unit for several years. He's written several books re: our foreign policies and some of his interviews can be heard on youtube. I try to read at least one book a week relating to U.S. history and foreign affairs. We live in some frightening times but I truly believe that the truth will prevail over the plethora of misinformation if we, as people of our great country, do our part to research the facts and spread the word. We aren't going to get it very often from mainstream media in this country. That's for certain.

Feel free to look it up yourself, but every source I have seen puts Israel's military aid at around 2.5 billion and Egypt's at 1.5 billion.

Well, it's officially $3 billion (GWB signed a 10 year, $30 billion deal in 2007), but the loans and other investments = LOTS more. LINK

Outside of the war regions (Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan) Israel and Egypt appear to be getting the bulk of military aid, particularly military aid.

I wonder how much of that aid to Egypt is going to change. I'm pretty sure we pay them to basically honor the peace accord with Israel - and now that there is new "leadership," I am interested to see the developements.

I don't know. I guess Iran would be our best friends if that pesky little Israel was out of the way.

Israel isn't going away with or without our 2.5 billion in military aide per year.

Yeah, but what if Israel didn't have the United States vetoing every sanction against it in the UN? Very different situation.

Not sure what that has to do with direct military aid payments. I'm all about the money, I don't give a rats arse about the rest of it.

That's a different issue from financial aid.

How many seconds does it take this country to spend 2.5 billion dollars? They are our security guard at $5.00 an hour in the middle east.

Support. The United States supports Israel financially and politically. Which is more important? Who cares, they both affect us directly.

The US should decouple itself from the situation. We are all foreign policy and economic experts on here, you know.
