| Going rate to tip a Priest for a baptism? (Posted on 11/18/12 at 8:16 am)
Any ideas on the current amount to "offer/tip" the catholic priest after a baptism? I'll hang up and listen

How big is the baby? It's normally $5 per pound, I think.

Eh... with the recent alcohol raids, i'd be weary of prostitution right now. I wouldn't pay anything, once you get serviced just run.

Gaining admittance to the kingdom of heaven should not require a tip to the priest performing the rights required to do so, Imo. I'm pretty sure when St Peter is reading the ledger to you of your sins, "failure to tip your priest for baptism" won't be on it. Catholics make me laugh, every once in a while.

This reminds me of the old joke where a priest, rabbi, and some other religious guy asks how much of the donations they keep for themselves. One takes 10%, the other takes 20%, and the catholic priests just throws the money up in the air and lets god takes what he wants and leave the rest to him. The catholic church is a joke now. Tipping a priest? BS. A donation to the church is what it should be.

20% is standard, but make sure you get a blank indulgence you can fill in later.

My question was serious? Do priests expect a tip to perform a baptism? I would not have dreamed that.

This part of the reason I am now a Catholic in exile. Tipping a priest for anything seems unethical and ridiculous to me. As does most of the BS you have to go through to attain the Pope's official seal of approval. frick that.

It goes to the church. The preist isn't pocketing it to go hit the blackjack table or something.

It's one of those things that people who were raised right just do, out of common courtesy. But in this day and age that's probably out of the window.

To clarify, are you talking about making a donation to the church, and tipping the priest in addition to this donation?
