he did not have a conservative rating of 84 and better like newt, santorum and granny paul had. why did mittens get nominated? beats the hell out of me. not my guy but better than obama.

Because the media vomited all over the place that he was the ONLY one who could beat Obama. Polls stated otherwise, but since the GOP and media said it he won IMO

My personal opinion is that Romney was indeed the one who could do best against the President. Contrary to what Fox News may say, I seriously do not think moving to the right is going to help the GOP win a Presidential election.

Romney will not run again. That will be his decision. That's probably the best for the party and him personally.
I will say this, as someone who has been a lifelong conservative, I think Mitt is a very good & decent man and would've been a great president. Of all the candidates we had to choose from this year, he was the most qualified and electable. Rush said it best... it's hard to run against Santa Clause and win.

I don't get the argument of giving gifts as the reason Obama won. Romney would have been giving his constituents gifts as well: Tax cuts for rich people, huge military contracts for arms producers, etc. I would say Huntsman was the most qualified as Mitt was a disinterested governor for four years and that was the sum of his relevant experience.

Obama has and will be a genuinely harmful President.
He's been a ball and chain on business. He's set in place the ruin of American medicine. Could go on and on.
In the face of that BS, the GOP forwarded its weakest slate of Candidates perhaps ever.
Out of his horrible field, Romney was the only candidate with any chance. He knew that. His campaign knew that. As unbelievable as it sounds, he and his campaign basically approached the election as an inevitable win. Very much like Dewey vs Truman.
Even in the 1st week of September trailing 7-9pts, they felt the election was in the bag. The Romney strategy was to tread water until the debates. Just not to make mistakes. Again the campaign was very cocky about Romney winning those Debates. When he crushed Obama in the first one, they lightened up.
By the 3rd debate they were back in the Dewey we've-got-this-in-the-bag mode. They decided to use an untried "high-tech" GOTV software program figuring it would push their electoral result from ~282 to >310. Then came Sandy. Then came the GOTV software crash early on election day.
The Romney group was so cocky, so sure of themselves that they never even considered a GOTV back up. When their software crashed, they left 30,000 GOP election day workers completely stranded. Probably cost 2%, +7-10 Congressional seats, and perhaps the election.

I'd prefer not.
However, if the Republican party stays closer to the middle instead of moving further to the right, it wouldn't surprise me.
There are too many whiny bitches on the far right who wouldn't even vote for an imperfect candidate against Obama. People like that are not even worth the effort of catering to.
