Curious - What Do Progressives/Liberals Say They "Do Not" Do Well?

I know this post is going to attract a lot of those of a conservative bent, but that is not the point. I have noticed that when those from the left/liberal/progressive persuasion enter into a discussion, they tend to be very uniform/united in their presentation of the facts as they know them. Very rarely do I notice them dissenting from each other. Whereas the right/conservative (and libertarian/anarchist) seemed to clash quite a bit.

What sat ye my friends from the left? Do you have any major policy issues that you feel you do not do well? Any?

Economics. Even their premier economist, Paul Krugman, wrote yesterday that we should not raise the SS age limit because people are misguided about the problem of 'longevity.' He explains that people are only expected to live longer FROM BIRTH today compared to 50 years ago. But SS isn't from birth. It's how long you're expected to live FROM 65. And that hasn't changed.

Kind of lonely in here. Does the Left do anything wrong? Anything poorly? Anything?

Urban blight? Teen pregnancy? Education? Jobs?

Or are all of these the fault of the Republican Party?

If you look at their intent, and not their results, they would say they do spectacularly well.

The intent is all that matters to them, because they suck arse at actual results.

Promote working hard or clean up after themselves, just look at the Occupy movement, compared to a tea party rally. I had a friend that went to new york and he said you smell the stench two blocks away.

I've noticed people (mostly liberals, but some conservatives too) claim that although both "sides" lie it's the "other side" that lies far more outrageously.

My response is to ask them that since they've given the matter some thought, surely they can name some lies their own party has told that they don't consider very outrageous?

Haven't heard any answers yet, but I do keep trying.

HUH? the life expectancy has increased dramatically. You can start the clock wherever you want (birth to 65). That doesn't change the average or the endpoint....and when SS started the average life expectancy/endpoint was 65. everyone else beyond this was on Extended Play.

Kind of disappointed that I have not gotten a response from some of our more prominent representatives/intellectuals from the left.

VOR? Decatur? a Want? Rex? Will you not grace this thread with your wisdom, wit and intellect?

If they would show up, my guess is that they would say that they suck at being humble.

Childhood mortality rates would.

If everyone dies at 50 or half of people die at 10 an 90, it's the same average age.

I think he means that once you cross the 65 threshold your chances of living longer don't go up

The overall life expectancy goes up because less people are dying before the age of 65

Not sure if this is actually true, but it would be somewhat believable

The New Left was never a movement that was equipped to perform self-assessment in order to evaluate an agenda of traditional goals/ends/objectives. By "traditional", I mean what reasonable people would agree are the traditional ends/objectives that we, as a society, need to achieve in order to promote the general welfare.

The New Left was always a movement dedicated to the singular goal of consolidation of political power by any means necessary. The means they have used are what you'd expect from agitators and propagandists whose goal it is to overthrow the mainstream culture and replace it with a New Left culture.

They've done well, so far, in both the consolidation of political power and the subversion of our traditional mores and norms.

I would not expect the New Left to, at this point in history, to make public any list of self-confessed failures or defects.

In their view, the New Left Person is the Perfect Being, and, we must all endeavor to be like this Perfect Being.

That's my "big picture" take on it, anyway.

Very well said sir. Thank you.

I was hoping to enter into a meaningful dialogue. Possibly determine a sense of self awareness, a mea culpa of sorts.

Unfortunately, it has (apparently) eluded me.

Even at the turn of the century a lot of people lived to be very old. The increase in average life expectancy was mainly due to decreasing infant mortality, and the elimination of smallpox, and polio. That said, Krugman is still an idiot.
