Supposedly an EMP attack could take out 80% of the country. That Revolution show is about that. Big cities would be the worst place to be in any crisis. First target. Least prepared. Most chaos. Least resources.
I'm working with an engineering team at Northrup Grumman in Huntsville on an EMP proof set of communications electronics for use in battle theater operations. The day is coming.

Love to see that tech. Without giving much away, how far out do you think it is? That's a tough problem-set.

The high degree of dependence/interdependence is extremely problematic, both in the government mechanism which delivers the services (check in the mail) which more every day depend on...and the technology upon which most of us access to prosper. High population centers are 'fish in a barrel'.

Good luck on that EMP tech; I hope yall can get us there before some group of religious/ideological psychos pulls the trigger.

Oh, we're there with the technology. That's already been proven. It's the weight, miniaturization and mobility that we're working on. Can't really say much as we're competing for the program contract.

forget raising the tax rates on rich, raise it on those living inside of cities by a good 10 to 15% across the board.

If a terrorist wanted to bring down the US, what would be the top 5 targets?

I read somewhere years ago that strategic locations in Louisiana (i.e. Baton Rouge and Laplace) and Texas (Port Arthur) are high on the list due to the oil refining that occurs in these areas.

ETA: Of course, New York and DC are going to be higher on the list for obvious reasons for terrorists.

It literally is the classic Landowner vs City Dweller politics. Amazing to see, really. It is obvious who is going to win from here on out.

If it came down to this mythical war, I know who would win that. The City Dwellers know that's the only way to get what they want: use Govt. to extort the land owners.

Actually, the entire Texas Gulf Coast from Beaumont down to Corpus Christi. Cripple the petrochemical industry and the whole country grinds to a halt.

Actually, you'd want to hit the Louisiana coast too. This nation has roughly 150 refineries, but the 6 biggest ones all process more than 400,000 barrels of crude oil per pay and 3 are in Texas and the other 3 are in Louisiana.

a strategical attack of port arthur through lake charles on i-10 would be pretty bad

you'd hit a bunch of refinign operations and the strategic petro reserve in hackberry (it's not that far off that path)

Might I recommend Washington D.C. as a testing ground? Thanks!

A fairly strategic attack on the power grid in key areas would be a crude yet highly effective assault. Aside from shutting down the petro industry, a major metro area without electricity (thus communications/transportation) would start ripping itself apart in a matter of days.

City residents already pay higher taxes and receive less benefits than rural areas. But I guess its gimmee gimmee gimmee in the red states.

Don't want to start another thread

Government handouts are more based on residence right?

how much money would be saved if we dropped payments in metro areas....flat accross the board, and people need to re-gentrify poorer areas to maximize the lower benefits.

ie: Boston,NY,Philly....may be 1,600/month...Hammond might get you 1,000/month

drop bene's to the low end, tell old folks to move their wrikled asses to the country

There are also GREAT things in other countries that we don't get in 'Murica.

I see the point. The things in the suburbs of countries, things that done by the people in that country that are fairly unique to that country....is that country. Otherwise it's just generic Metro sushi bars, dance clubs, "choices", etc....the same in any metro area of any civilized or not country.

tour Sharm El Sheik's Egypt's most famous nightclub - Pacha

Is this really Egypt? Would these people's vote accurately represent Egypt....or some man made cultural creation?
