Our bill was $36, and the added gratuity that she charged our card for was $14 something. If you divide $14 something by 36, guess what you get.
I understand exactly what she did. She added a 20% tip for what the total would have been if the drinks were regular price, and she hoped we wouldn't notice that the tip was already added so that we would tip more. Unfortunately for her, we're not fricking idiots so we called her out on it. Why would I make this shite up?

You are supposed to tip on the full amount if you use a gift card or something like that. But if its two for one drinks I have never felt the need to pay for "both drinks."
I also agree if this were food it would be a different story. I only ever tip a dollar or two per drink but always tip at least 15-20% depending on service. Making a drink takes about 2 mins. Serving a table throughout the course of the meal takes much, much more.
To expect that much tip on a few drinks is some buuuuuullshit

Crooks, they are out their folks, and it's not new.
I had a friend that used to pump gas at the Airline Motors in LaPlace during the mid eighties. People would never check the amount he pumped, so he would just add a dollar to every fill up. "Yes maam, that will be 12 dollars" instead of the actual 11 dollars. It would add up during the day and that was big money back then.
He rarely got busted, and if he did, he just acted as if he made a mistake.

What you are basing this assumption on?
Don't tell me it's because of facial expressions because you asked to get the tip removed, i.e., you were going to pay less than the full price tip.
If you want to rag on them for auto gratuity on regular price drinks, go for it. No need to make shite up on top of it though.

If I'm a manager I'd be giving her a pretty stern warning on that one.

I think the waitress should take into her consideration that he employer will offer 50% goods that will affect her income. She should understand this, not pass it off to her customers.
OP - How did ya'll act as customers? I'm guessing with your finacee' & dad there was little to no rowdiness involved?

Our policy at the restaurant I manage is 18% on parties of 6 or more. I always say if that is so then put the extra that you would have tipped on top of the grat. They never do. All that person did was reinforce the idea that gratuity needs to be added.
