Why add gratuity for drinks. It's not like they're waiting on you hand and foot. How is getting drinks for 3 any different than 3 people getting drinks at the bar.
That's stupid. Food is a wayyyy different scenario.

This happened to me at the one in Lafayette. It was five of us after my wife's best friend's wedding. We were drinking $20 glasses of wine among other things and ran up a $500+ bill. I was wasted and picked up the tab. Didn't notice they auto gratted the bill and tipped like I normally would. Luckily, only the gratted amount, 20%, was charged.

also, why don't these places make their waitresses wear slutty uniforms anymore?

My rule of thumb is $1 per drink, $3 per pitcher, $5 per bottle of wine.
I range between 10-20% on food based on service quality.
I dont tip pickup orders, dont know if that makes me a dick.

I like auto grat bc its usually lower than what i'd typically tip. I dont see what the big deal is.
And even then i sometimes tip on top of it if they're good.

How is bringing the food from the kitchen to the table worth almost half of what the bill for the food itself actually costs?
I'm having a hard time understanding tips over 35% unless it is in a really nice place. Even then, it probably doesn't make sense.

For me:
Haircut lady: 25% (totalling $25); Christmas: 50%
Food: Base tip 15%, adjusted up (capped @ 25%) or down (as low as 1%) based on food quality and service; take out 0%
