What is the OT's take on quality of whiskey and mixing with coke? I set the bar at Maker's Mark. As in maker's can be mixed, but anything of higher grade should be drank alone or on ice

If you HAVE to mix whiskey you shouldn't be drinking it.
Makers is as low as I would go as well

I don't have to, but I do I prefer to. Maker's + coke = coke taste with an accent of caramel

I'd like to get experienced whiskey drinkers' input on whether mixing a $50 bottle of whiskey with coke is a waste of money or not. I don't have the experience to fully answer that question

I like my Tennessee whiskey. I mostly drink Jack (trashy I know). Old No. 7 I'll drink with coke. Gentleman Jack or the Single Barrel I drink neat or maybe just a little ice.

If you're going to be mixing your whiskey, then no...it doesn't really matter if you're using Evan Williams or makers or knob creek or whatever.
People that buy expensive whiskey do so because they enjoy the flavor of the whiskey, and want to drink it by itself or with a splash of water. If you're pouring coke in your whiskey it doesn't really matter the quality of the whiskey, it will basically taste like an alcoholic coke

I wouldn't spend 50 if i was mixing with coke, i would go with jack or something, but i'm far from experienced. i get what you are asking tho

Bull shite. I used to believe this. Make a screwdriver with Takka and one with Ciroc and see if you can tell the difference.
Same holds true for whiskey/bourbon
