For $200, around 20-25. I go and see that many each year at least (taken a slight downturn this year though). Maybe I would need to take it down to $150 or $175. The initial $400 was completely off my rocker. Teenagers spend tons and tons of money at the movie theater, and that I think would be the major target.

I do too for metro areas, release the films in Foreign Languages example:

Houston should have a theater releasing the Spanish versions of major films. San Francisco should have a theater that has Latin and Chinese releases of American films. If it exists, I have never seen or heard of it.....10-50 theaters all showing the same crap to to same audience...no niches

I haven't read this thread but the idea reminds me of the Netflix suit a few years back....people were watching 5 movies a day and mailing them back the next day and expecting 5 more movies the next day. Netflix was intentionally slowing down their service to save money. You'd probably run into people who would watch 365 + movies a year....I like your idea and with the correct business plan I think it could work. Consider doing seasonal passes or breaking the passes into shorter time periods for a trial run.

This is true for way more people than you think. Your core demo would end up being <30's and I don't know if that would be enough to support your idea.

I like the idea, but I think a shorter period might work better. For example maybe have special deals to cover all the summer blockbusters, yet have it be more expensive than say the beginning of the year when there are less big movies. Or just do a year long pass with a limit on how many movies you can see, but emphasize how much money you are saving per ticket. Perhaps since each pass has a finite number of uses it can be used to buy multiple tickets at a time. eg: you and date go out and instead of you using your pass and then buying her a ticket, you just take two uses of the pass. Your receipt could tell you how many more movies you can see on this pass.

How about you just run a small 3 screen theater that makes profit by buying the reels from movies that've been in theaters a while and playing them on your screens and charging $2 a showing. They had a theater like this when I was growing up and they made bank. You could also have a retro night, where you play an old movie, and you could bid for reels of limited release movies, so you could get indie movies! People in Baton Rouge would love you. And by people I mean 2-5 posters on the M/TV Board who hate driving to Canal Place Cinema. FWIW Cinemark at Perkins Rowe is doing a good job of getting these films.

I saw Public Enemies in Greece back in 2009. Those lazy fricks had an intermission during a 2 hour movie. That's when I knew for sure they were screwed. On topic: I don't know how the theater/studio relationship works, but after that I would say the costs are all sunk and immaterial. The guy seeing 100 films is only a problem if the theater has to account for him to the studio which im sure it does. But the movie itself is going to be playing at that time regardless if the big user is there or not, so those costs should be thrown out the equation(projector, power, etc)Id really like to know if that persons concession purchases would make it work, especially in week 2,3,4 of a movies run.

Not a problem, for they would have a card and then I'd scan it to know when and what movie they are watching, and then I'd cover the costs for it. Don't see why this would be a turnoff to the studio system.
Considering only highly frequent movie goers will get those cards, you are PRAYING that they get lots of concessions on the visits.

I oppose any idea that gets more teenagers to the cinemas unless they are females of at least voting age.

I'd be someone who would buy it as I see roughly 25-30 movies a year and that's about 2/3 of the amount I'm interested in. I've purchased exactly 3 items in the last 2 years at the cinemas - an Icee and the Cinemark near me does one of those promotions where if you buy one of their special refillable drink cups you can get $3 refills. I never buy the refill, I just bring in a drink from home already poured into it. I get a top and a straw and I'm set.

The concessions at the movie theaters are ridiculous. The only thing I ever get anymore, and even then it's a rare occasion, is popcorn or an Icee. When my wife and I go to the movies, she just switches to her "big" purse and we spend 5-10 bucks at Walgreens for $25 worth of movie candy and just put it in her purse. I refuse to pay $4+ for a box of candy that's less than $1. We usually even bring in bottles of water or soft drink that we might want.

It's a great idea.. but I really think you are underestimating how MANY movies the average movie goer would start watching if you offered this service. If I could do this, I would pay the $200 - $400 and go see 2-3 movies a week, just because I could, I currently only watch 2-3 movies a year at a full price theater. You would more than likely end up losing a good bit of money on me as well, because I buy 0 concessions, I absolutely love to sneak snacks into the theater.
