ESPN's Ed Werder reported Friday morning that -- barring a "total collapse" -- the Cowboys are unlikely to pay off Jason Garrett and chase Payton at a total cost of close to $50 million

I'll trust Ed Werder over Duncan

Do you see that ? at the end of the sentence?

Yeah i did.
but a ? doesnt excuse the statement. For example if i started a thread that said "Should we fire Payton if Vitt wins the Superbowl?" Do you think that would be legit because i have a ?

quote:

but you have to look at it from an owners view.

Tom Benson isnt letting Payton go anywhere. That is the owners view.
quote:

Its a legit discussion about market value, not talent.

Im sorry I just dont think it is. You can certainly argue it raises Joe Vitt's market value. I agree with that wholeheartedly. But to ask if Payton looses market value if Vitt pulls off a miracle this year is just a dumb question in my opinion. Maybe im wrong. But i dont think i am

I'm going to have to disagree with this statement.

I'm kind of surprised that this has not been mentioned yet which kind of makes me think that I may be wrong in some way. However, doesn't the year that was left on his contract roll over to next year because he was suspended this year? I think a decision on this matter hasn't been made, or maybe I just missed it. In this case it is really stupid to say that he is going to Dallas when he is still under contract with New Orleans.

The NFL would have to rule on this issue. Hopefully, it becomes a moot point and the contract extension is re-worked (and Duncan is made to look like the idiot that he truly is).

After his take on Bounty-gate, Duncan took a TON of criticism, some warranted, some not.

Please, let us know which criticism of Duncan was unwarranted for his take on Bountygate.

This ought to be interesting.

I just meant personal attacks, not aimed at adding substance to the discussion.

Not really as interesting as you thought, I'm sure.

OK.

Fair enough. And I agree with that to an extent.

Nope. I thought that there may have been some critical statements of his position that were unwarranted, which I would have liked to hear. That would have been rather interesting, IMO.

I personally believe CSP is gonna be in NOLA next year. That being said, it's a smart business move by him, not jumping on a new contract immediately. Always get a feel for what your options for. We don't know what his priorities are in terms of where he wants to work.

You think the team, the franchise, the organization, the city, the fanbase, the potential, the prestige and the opportunity for greatness is the same as when we first hired Payton?
Well obviously all things Saints are much better than when he first took the job. But the point, which sailed over your head, is that just like in '06 Payton is going to wait and see if he gets an offer from Dallas (in '06 Green Bay) before signing with the Saints. And do you honestly think that being a head coach for the Saints is more prestigious that being a head coach for the Dallas Cowboys? I'm all for homerism, but don't be a retard

I honestly think being a superbowl winning/contending coach is more prestigious than being under Jerrah's thumb and trying to coach up that mess in Dallas.

The Saints are Payton's team. Period. His. He has molded them with his own two hands and he isn't going anywhere. Stop trolling, Duncan.

ARRRRR, CAPTAIN OUT!

So tell me why he hasn't signed yet. Just strike out the clause that the NFL is butt hurt about and sign. SP is gone if Dallas offers him the job. That's what he is waiting for. If Dallas makes it to the playoffs then Payton will be on the Saints sidelines next season. So we need to be Cowboys fans for the rest of the season.

Because they're negotiating numbnutz.

Why should he? Things have changed, and it's become even more apparent just how valuable he is to this team. Payton will get paid.

quote:

Yeah, SP is just itching to ditch the team he's spent 6 years building, leave his future HOF QB who will always have you in SB contention, and go to an aging team with a shite o-line and an erratic QB, or start from scratch with a rookie QB.

Idiot.

ETA: You're exactly the type of of idiot espn makes it's money off of; a reactionary with no critical thinking skills.

why does he need to negotiate? he already agreed to the money offered before so what's there to negotiate?

so you've got no problem with Payton now taking advantage of the Saints to squeeze as much money of of 'em as he can?

the problem with Dallas is not talent but coaching. say what you want about Jerry, but his team has always had plenty of talent.

His. Agent's. Job. Is. To. Get. The. Best. Deal. For. His. Client.

Why should I? His salary doesn't effect the cap, and his contract will still be a modest one when compared to the players.

It's both. Cowboys fans will tell you that. They overpay for players, and they've neglected their o-line.

I'm not being reactionary, just realistic.

It's a general consensus with the folks who get paid a lot of money to write on all things NFL that Payton is waiting to see what happens in Dallas. He will not sign a contract with NO until Dallas makes an offer or not.

They're creating excitement midseason for a large fanbase who currently has little be excited about.

He may sign before the free period, but if he does wait, he's waiting for his market to be set.

He's already done that. But now they are more than willing to frick the Saints over as well as all its fans.

you're missing the point
