So I wonder when this will be everywhere? I live in a small town that pretty much carries the basics, plus Abita, Sam Adams, and a few other things. I was shocked when I saw St. Arnold's Christmas Ale at the store here the other day.

Nope, and if you remember only one of those articles was semi positive. I experienced this dilemma in a bar in DC where I saw a poster for Batch 19, thinking it was local ordered it. Liked it a lot then looked it up and its a Coors product. So I've been debating this topic ever since.

I agree to a point. I see right through the Blue Moon, Shock Top, Henry Weinhard stuff of trying to trick/fool consumers. Most people don't. That stuff pisses me off.

At the same time, I'm not gonna ever turn down a Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout.

I bought this at Wal-Mart the other day. I kinda figured it was something by BMC but it was cheap so I tried it. Not great, but not disgusting either.

Yep, it's Miller. Good luck finding that on the bottle or cardboard carrier.

I think this is a really interesting discussion to have though. Especially seeing how InBev has treated imported brands like Becks, and then seeing them take over Goose Island is worrying yet excitin at the same time.

I saw it at Rouse's the other day and was intrigued. I made the correct assumption I guess when I saw that it was getting it's own priority display that it was probably a BMC brand, because they're the only ones that will pay for that.

This is what pisses me off about BMC. They are purposely trying to deceive consumers. Nobody is deceived by Miller Lite. You know what you're getting and from who. But most people don't know that Blue Moon, Leinenkugel, Shocktop, Henry Weinhard, etc are nothing more than subsidiaries of BMC.

Deceive them into what exactly? It's not like they are putting Bud Light into a different bottle.

Good article, but I can only blame BMC so much. Really it comes down to the customer and what they "enjoy." Ultimately, the success of BMC has more to do with consumers' lack of taste and/or knowledge of what good beer is and less to do with fraudulent marketing strategies.

you also have to factor in price. drinking fine craft beers is expensive. for those PJ types who bang down a 12 pack every night, they would go bankrupt drinking craft beer, and drinking 12 DIPA in one night would mean too many hangover leading to no jobby

Disagree, a lot of crafts have double or triple the abv of bud light. So less are needed.

re: Big Beer dresses up in craft brewers' clothing
come on bro, you think joe 12 pack is going to stop at 3 because there is a higher ABV?

Honestly, My biggest thing is there is a place and a fit for watered down lagers for mass consumption...What I have a big problem wiht is the BMC blocking access for consumers to get the beer they want. BMC bascially controls state legislatures and prevents a true free market for craft beer by keeping the draconian distributor/brew pub laws on the books and basically ensuring advantage for them and disadvantage for consumers

The stranglehold that BMC has on professional sporting venues is a fricking tragedy. There's basically zero chance craft breweries could work their way into MLB ballparks, NFL stadiums and NBA arenas.

You don't think Miller is deceiving customers into believing they are drinking an independently produced craft beer? After all, the label says Henry Weinhard Brewing Co. And for every one of those 6 packs on the shelf, there is less space for a true craft beer.

re: Big Beer dresses up in craft brewers' clothing
My HEB has about 75% space for Craft Beer adn 25% for BMC, etc.. but it has more to do with demographics of where I live

Yep. But I loved seeing that big Boulevard sign at the All Star game in Kansas City this year.
