If they cut into a live pipe or an isolated but not flushed segment then somebody in charge fricked up. Damn I trace everything down and double check the hell out of every job I do. Should have had their eye on the ball. No fricking excuses for failing out here. Now look what they've done to those families. Damn

My husband manages an off shore company. He said that was in shallow waters and none of his guys were involved, BUT.. his company has a tool used to prevent those kind of accidents and he's been trying to talk to those guys on that platform about it for months now.

You didn't watch it in flames, you saw a picture of it before it was extinguished. Safety devices can't prevent all accidents but they can minimize the damage when something does go wrong.

11 now confirmed were medevaced to local hospitals in Houma Regional Medical and West Jeff Hospital. 2 still missing who dove off the platform when it exploded. 26 were working on the platform when the incident took place.
Early estimate is at least 30 barrels of oil leaked. Rig is in 56 feet of water.

yes but not on the rig floor. typically there is an area near the Heliport with a smoking area.

Some do, some don't. There is designated smoking areas on the ones that do and they all have gas detectors in the area.
