Black Elk Energy is a fast growing co in Houston. Have branches in NOla and Broussard. It was recently recognized as one of the best places to work in Houston. Repair work was being done. workers are suspected to cut into an oil pipe. No visible fire on platform as of a few minutes ago.
News just broke on Foxnews.

Looks like oil somewhere was burning with all that dark black smoke drifting. Gas wouldn't burn that dark. Sounds like they cut a line that wasn't flushed maybe?

28 workers on the rig at the time of the explosion. Rig workers were performing shutdown work when a pipe with oil inside was ignited while being cut by the workers during the shutdown. A 200 yard by 100 yard Sheen on the water currently on the water column.
4 workers transported to West Jeff Hospital.

wow...fatalities here and family losing loved ones. Life drastically changing and someones worrying about polar bears. every occupation outside of the oil business is a safe one i guess.

i'm not taking away one ounce of concern from the people and their safety. i completely and whole-heartedly hope they are okay. you assumed far too much.
just because i didn't say. "prayers sent" etc... doesn't mean i don't hope they are safe.

AND my family is in the oil industry... so i get it. i've been around it. i just have strong opinions about, for example, the safety of the people and environment that is affected by the industry.

sorry. it just pisses me off when we have an incident such as this and so many people jump straight into the "environmental issues" and use it as an agenda when there are still people missing.
not saying you're jumping an agenda and yes i prob read too much into it. sorry.

Sheek from what I know Black Elk had to give back most of their platforms because they couldn't pay. Part of a deal with Grand Isle Shipyards. I turned down a job with Black Elk.
