Coast Guard Captain Peter Gautier said there was believe to be 28 people on the platform at the time. He said there were rescues being done by Coast Guard and Good Samaritans. Gautier said the platform was not actively producing oil and it is not belived that there is any chance for a major environmental disaster. He said initial reports were that maintenance workers were cutting into a pipe and that oil may have escaped, causing the explosion.
Looks like oil somewhere was burning with all that dark black smoke drifting. Gas wouldn't burn that dark. Sounds like they cut a line that wasn't flushed maybe?

It's a Platform, not a Rig. This won't be another BP Spill...Too many safety devices in place.
and they want to do this to the beautiful polar bear homeland.
so many safety devices in place as we watch it engulf in flames?
