I heard on the radio today that the reason UCLA pushed it this year is because USC listed the game on their schedule as a 'home' game because it is in LA. UCLA did not take kindly to that.
tbh, a lot of this might seem shocking or whatnot but most of it has to do with Mora being new to the rivalry and wanting to change old mindsets.
USC has called the Rose Bowl - their "home away from home" - for a few decades now.
(this will be Troy's 52nd contest in the Pasadena stadium overall and USC has appeared in 33 Rose Bowls with a winning % of .718.)
It's just cross-town smack-talk. Trying to curb with traditions and pranks and bluster seems the wrong way to embrace a rivalry IMO.
But it's Mora's team and USC has agreed to their request so things will even be more tame now I guess.
