These contract concessions are not ideal or even fair by any means in today’s economy, but if it is the only way to keep the doors of Hostess open and keep over 18,000 people employed, then it might be considered the lessor of two evils.

That's just embarassing.

Unions get more attention when they threaten to not make Twinkies than when they threaton to not make cars.

Actually, I don't have a sweet tooth so I could not care less personally. There is a story that GW will cause Arabica beans for my espresso to go extinct in 2050. But I'll be dead and won't care.

These frickers should have been left to fold (UAW), the auto industry would be fine w/o them, in fact better for the consumer.

frick unions! They've outlived their usefulness and now they are bankrupting companies to feed the monster. I had partial ownership in a business with unionized employees. We shut that bitch down, liquidized it, then reopened with non-union employees.

Typical union negotiating tactics.

I remember in Wisconsin, Mercury Marine threatened to relocate to OKC. The union stood strong. When the company announced their closure of the WI location, the state legislature had to step in and officially beg Mercury to allow the union to return to the table. They did, and an agreement was finally reached.

I suspect Hostess is in a similar spot in this situation.

Unions suck.

I came here to make sure both of these points were emphasized. Thank you 1999.

A bankruptcy judge imposed contract concessions that 92 percent of union workers rejected and they went on strike last week. The contract concession included a pay cut of eight percent and 17 percent in benefit reductions across the board. This is the only way the company could stay in business.
Well. . .there you have it. . .

Unions are forcing their hand.
