| Firing a high school coach (Posted on 11/15/12 at 5:24 pm)
Some of these coaches make squat if you factor the amount of hours they work. Does the board see anything wrong with fans actively tring to get a HS Head Coach fired for losing to many games? These guys are not making college level money to sock it away. You might cost a HS coach his house, life style etc.

If a salesperson never sells anything, he's going to get fired. It's just life.

Not winning championships? Ridiculous to fire a coach for that. A coach that is losing more than half their games every year and failing to ever teach young men what it takes to be successful? Yeah. I could see firing one for that.

Well, unionization is a different story for a different day. Can you imagine if CFB coaches unionized?

My high school coach made/makes 100k a year, and he doesn't really teach.

Funny enough, I was actually thinking of starting this thread a few days ago. Is it not strange to see a coach (see also: teacher or administrator) fired for wins and losses at the high school level?

I go back and forth, but if your school has a winning tradition and you have a coach that does not win it is time for a change. On the other hand how do you fire a guy that is an average Joe just working for the weekend like the rest of us?

I can't speak for the other states, but I do know quite a few coaches in MI who were fired form their positions as HFC, but retained by the SD in some capacity.

Seems that most high schools should be happy with their coach as long as he's not an alcoholic.

Our city's AD was going to fire one of our HS' head coaches this year. He coached there for 13 years and his last 6 were losing seasons. The fans wanted him gone...he took the route with dignity and retired.

well the assumption is the coach won't be coaching anymore but will still have a teaching job if he wants it at that school believe me i don't mind jason tucker as a teacher like anyone else at chalmette high, but we might need a new head football coach and i'm not the only one who thinks so (hint- the numbers and attendance don't lie) usually this is 4A and 5A coaches... once you drop down a classification or a few, you get the weekend warrior type coaches, and the game isn't taken as serious

yeah 95% of 4A and 5A thinks that with the right coach, a turf field, their kids going to camps, and new weights, that they'll be the shit the exceptions are usually the poor city schools and places like Fisher or Crescent City

Dude, you need to give some Louisiana coaches a call. Small school ball can get pretty intense here.
