The ciriculum to get a psyc degree compared to engineering or science is well...bullshitee in comparison

Why, because the psych kid doesn't have to learn fluid dynamics?

At least most of them learn how to write properly, spell correctly, and argue effectively.

You learn skills in engineering you dont learn in psyc, and vice versa. There is no need to devalue another person's major just because you dont understand the benefits from it or reasons for pursuing it.

Basically, yes.

If you think the workload and commitment is the same, you must be high

Do you know how to discuss the societal problems relating to the over-diagnosing of psychological disorders in a well thought out, researched, and properly organized essay?

I bet the answer is no. And i bet while reading that you were just laughing because it isnt hard to pass psych but its super hard to pass engineering classes.

Yes engineering is a hard degree, no one is debating that. But to do really well in advanced psych classes, to truly learn how to master an art takes an equal amount of commitment and workload. I'm sorry that you cant seem to comprehend that. It may be easier to skid by in some B.A. classes, but true mastery and understanding of the concepts in advanced level B.A. classes takes a tremendous amount of work and commitment. And it shouldnt be devalued because that kid doesnt know how to design a canal system to take pressure off of a levy guarding a city.

The world needs both scientists and artists, realists and dreamers, one without the other cannot work. And neither should be demeaned in favor of the other. Why is it so important to you to bash the artists of the world? Why does what they do effect you in anyway?

Did I ever say what if I knew random information that has nothing to do with my degree? No. I'm talking about the workload and time commitment to ear that degree.

Science and engineering >>>> psyc

Sorry, but all your reasoning makes no sense to me.

The workload is greater, yes. But that doesn't make a Psyc degree inferior. Not everyone want to be an engineer or a doctor.

At the end of the day, its about doing what interests you.

There are people who didnt do shite in engineering and earned a degree. I hate to burst your bubble about that.

The point is mastery of a craft, be it art or science, takes a tremendous amount of work. And yes i would wager there are kids with B.A.s that put in the exact same amount of work as kids with a B.S. And id bet my life there are kids that worked harder to get their B.A.s than some kids worked to get there B.S.and the same applies vice versa. Why you feel the need to belittle and devalue an entire department of the education system is beyond me.

I'll put it this way, I don't necessarily think it is a bs major, but it has a larger amount of bs students than any non liberal arts field. I've heard so many kids complain about how hard psych is and they think they are going to get a job when they graduate . It attracts a lot of dummies in my experience.

I can agree with that.

Well those kids dont understand how the real world works. Or chose the wrong major. You should do something you love because you enjoy doing it. You shouldn't settle for something because it makes you money.

I agree. It can be easier to get a B.A. and more people go that route because it is easier. But that reflects on the laziness and bull shite of society, not of the people who try their hardest in those areas.

Belittle? Are you butthurt or something? And no shite people have gotten engineering degrees when they shouldn't have, but be realistic here. There are much more difficult degrees with better job opportunities than psyc and socl, you can't put it on the same level.

No im not. But you have been belittling those degrees with every post of yours. Do you deny that?

I always am. Except when it comes to sports.

quote:

I absolutely can, but that is because we have a fundamental difference of opinion in the purpose of education, the quality of opportunities, the way a degree can be used, the reasons for taking a job, and the difficulty in obtaining a degree.

ETA:
I have heard the argument that the fact that for the most part you have to go through an undergrad in psych, get a masters, then a doctorate putting off your life for years and struggling to pay bills in order to be truly be successful in your field makes it harder than spending 3 years learning engineering classes and never having to step on a campus again.

This thread, along with the one about unions makes me want to go back to school, study psychology, and start a psychological union.
