The highest numbers of new filings came from Pennsylvania and Ohio, where there were thousands of layoffs in the construction, manufacturing, and automobile industries.

Have you searched and see what Fox News and other sites said about it. Missouri's Jobless claim went UP after the Joplin Tornado and our town is only 50,000, only about 10,000 was affected, maybe a little more. And our damage was only a little over 6 miles long, one mile wide. Now imagine what's going on on the EAST COAST(Millions of people), large population centers being affected by floods, downed power lines, homes destroyed, etc. Yes our country Jobless claim will go up. DUH.

It took some parts of our town of 50,000 over a month to get electricity. You can't go to work if your job don't have electricity! Can't go to work if your JOB is completely destroyed, etc.

As a Louisiana resident who lived on the road hopping from friend to friend, hotel to hotel, relative to relative, with a wife a 9 month old and a 5 year old for 3 months after we lost our home in Katrina I completely understand.

But...

quote:

Don’t blame Sandy for this, either, at least not entirely. The states impacted most by the hurricane didn’t make it onto the list of biggest increases, save for New Jersey and Connecticut — but claims there only jumped up by 5,675 and 1,783, respectively and unadjusted. Clearly, these two states aren’t the biggest cause for a jump of 104,000 claims. Both Pennsylvania (7,766) and Ohio (6,450) lost more jobs, thanks to layoffs in manufacturing and other industries.

While many of us believed this to be the case, I am sure we will be proven correct over the next couple of months. We will see a ton of stuff that was delayed till after the election to help the chosen one...

So what is the new number? 8.5% is my guess.

u6 hasn't cracked under 12% since clinton.

I can never understand why people post ridiculously absurd statements that are so removed from being factual that they are laughable.

U-6 was UNDER 12% for the first 93 months of Bush 43's 96 months in office.

Amazing how this happens right after the election isn't it. Good ole fashioned media and government corruption has allowed the Marxist to remain in the White House

Excellent post Darth!

I hear the same.

Business owners wanted Romney badly...

America will now learn more about how capitalism works

Don't group those of us who didn't vote to put this clown back into office. Americans show their ignorance at every turn lately.

And yes, I'm an American.
