This and they will tell you what the alarm is for free. If you live in EBR parish, just go to another parish for a inpection.

you can't since you have to give ID when you get inspection. Sure, there are "ways" around all this, but technically, you can't.

I've never seen a brake tag station in Louisiana that's refused brake tags because of a check engine light. Maybe some of the municipalities that have their own tags (Orleans, Kenner, Gretna, etc...), but I haven't heard of this before.

They checked the guages and they work fine, they say its something in the tank. Bascially , my gauge goes from empty, full , halfway, over and over while I drive. One second its showing full, they next on E

This is true. And my check engine light stayed on for 4 years. Finally replaced the O2 sensor and the light turned off.

I fricking hate inspection stickers! Oxygen sensors are not that bad to replace. The throttle body cleaning is great advice and will make a world of difference in how it runs. The gas gauge is not working because the sending unit on the fuel pump is bad. You will have to drop the tank to replace it. Again, not bad, but not something I'd want to do in an Autozone parking lot. Good luck and EBR will most definitely fail you with a CEL on.

Didnt have time to read whole discussion but as a mechanic and former inspector. I will tell you if u turn the light off and try to get it inspected it will come up as a not ready. Meaning the vehicle hasnt had sufficient enough time to go through a drive cycle. $1700 is crazy for what you listed oxygen sensor usually between 80- 100. Brake sensor probably same range. Your check engine light will not come on due to a fault gas gauge. If your Check engine light is on in east baton rouge or the surrounding parishes it will automatically fail. Even if it turns up as a not ready it is a fail. Need anymore help let me know.

This. If you get AutoZone to clear it, or you buy an OBDII scanner or adapter and use that to clear it, or if you pull the battery to turn it off, you will still fail the inspection. The on-board diagnostics (OBDII) system, when cleared, will be in a state of "not ready" until a certain amount of driving has been done and diagnostic data is built. A state of "not ready" automatically fails the inspection. The only way to get around this is to clear the code and then drive around for enough data to be collected so that it isn't in "not ready" status but hopefully the light still hasn't come on yet. If you actually have a real problem with your vehicle it is unlikely that you'll be able to do this, though.

This might sound a bit crazy, but try using a tank or two of Chevron premium and see if your light doesn't go out. I had multiple issues in the past with my light coming on, failed inspection, replaced gas cap at suggestion of inspector, light still on, ran some premium gas, light went out, passed inspection. Light came on again, Auto Zone code "P420 catalyst below threshold bank one", ended up replacing catalytic converter, light still came on and this was not a cheap repair job. If I use any other gas than Chevron (I now use regular), my light will come on appx. 100 miles into the tank.
