No, they don't make the decisions about what to produce. They decide that it's going to cost twice as much to make it with Union labor. Then they bitch about jobs going overseas. Idiots.

Am I supposed to mistake that for an argument? I believe the logical way to settle a contract when the involved parties cannot reach an agreement is to voluntarily end it.

Perhaps. But there are often loose ends and collateral issues that make such a clean break...problematic.

I'll bow out of this fudge factory while you continue to string together witless rhetorical zingers.

Union dues went to obamas campaign. That should be enough to piss off any southern man.
it should also be enough to piss off any union member who does not want their dues going to that. That's what private contributions are for.

Like every other institution, the basic thought behind it is good, and it starts with a great intention, but greedy power hungry douches eventually find there way to the top either by force, purpose, accident, or necessity. They then systematically ruin the program, degrade the people who actually need it, undermine it's original and intended purpose and bastardise its legitimacy in a few specific foundations, which spreads like a cancer to the rest of the programs instituted elsewhere.

What a dimwitted comment. I suppose you would like to go back to the days of feudalism where your local lord owned everything...including all of the jobs and you. It's not either/or people. A nice blend of free market capitalism with a substantial socialistic democratic safety net seems to be the ideal formula for humans to thrive. Somewhere in the middle is the correct answer. Our country is heading toward the European Social Democracy model (thank goodness) because that seems to be the most equitable solution.

Yeah, unions are the only thing standing between this country and feudal rule

Not trying to be witty, but think about what you posted. If two parties can't agree 100% on all issues 100% of the time, they should go their separate ways? No one would stay married, we wouldn't have a court system, government, etc. That's an asinine over-simplification.

I like your TV character rickety. No, that was an extreme example but it took into account the history or how and why Unions arose.

I think you confused civic structure with economic structure somewhere in that enlightened straw man.

While the rise of sweat shops contributed to the need for a union, the advance of capitalism reduced that need as conditions improved so that workers would be attracted to better places to work. Capitalism solves the need for unions. But the way this country is going anti-capitalist may cause unions grow.
