On October 24, 2011, Scriven temporarily blocked Florida’s new law that requires welfare applicants to pass a drug test before receiving benefits, saying it may violate the Constitution’s ban on unreasonable searches and seizures. The drug test can reveal a host of private medical facts about the individual, Scriven wrote, adding that she found it “troubling” that the drug tests are not kept confidential like medical records.[1]
I think that temporarily means not forever...Nevertheless, the decision of one judge does not mean that the issue is not debatable. Many of the issues that we discuss on this board are laws or the constitution...therfore Here is my response to the issue of legalizing marijuana... It is illegal in the United States. Pretty weak don't you think?

There's a difference between the 4th amendment and state/fed laws passed by congress.

In any sense of the word? Let's see, aren't they paid by the government? I would say that would be 1 sense of the word. On a lighter note, most government employees are about as useful as a welfare recipient. There's you're 2nd sense of the word.

Not disagreeing with that point, but the constitution is also VERY open to interpretation. And again, this was apparently not put into law...it was simply temporarily stopped. what else man?

Temporarily simply because it has been appealed. It's currently being heard by the 11th circuit. We'll have to wait and see what they say.

It's still a pretty weak argument...what do you think... hint...I'm asking you to use your brain and think about what's right and what's wrong.

What is weak? The argument that it violates the fourth amendment?

You never answered this. Is the government illegally seizing my property when they "force" me to provide my financial data to qualify for food stamps?

No. It's not cost effective. I'm a fiscal conservative.

Then that should be your argument...and I laid out my opinion to make the drug testing self sufficient...did you read that? It can absolutely pay for itself if done correctly.

Unconstitutional. Illegal search and seizure without probable cause. It's also why I oppose TSA searches and pat downs. Boarding a plane is not probable cause for a search. /thread
