I've never had a problem with it, but a buddy of mine is from Haifa...and he's headed back home next week for 2 weeks.
Kind of puts things into perspective huh?

Not very close with my family.
I am not a fan of going back, if I was single I would not go back, but my wife is very close with her family.

I love it. I don't get to go home often in the fall due to football games...which sucks when your house is only an hour away.

I don't mind the actual holiday, but then I like to get back to my place to enjoy the rest of the weekend.

This, plus I hate christmas in general. But i do whatever I can to avoid traveling during the holidays. Plus my family lives in a tourist destination and so do I. So plane flight costs at xmas are ridiculous.
tgiving isn't as bad but I generally stay home duriing it, or rent a cabin in the mtns.

This. I'm on the west coast and my family is in La. I hate fighting traffic to get to the airport, the cluster that is the airport, and then the same thing on the other end. And it's always the guilt trip of "you don't come home enough, when are you coming back". But, I will say, it's a cake walk compared to when I lived in Boston. I never knew what the weather was going to be like up there over the holidays and used that as my excuse.

This year, my wife is taking the kids during the dead period between thanksgiving and Xmas for 2 weeks.
Last year they went for a week during Christmas.
They love to go. I avoid it at all costs.

my opinion is if they want to see me so bad, they can come here. they dont like that answer though, b.c well they would then have to travel over the holidays. And they think its a pain.
I had that exact conversation with my father this year.
"buddha, come home for xmas"
"dad, you know, I hate flying for 4 hrs then driving for another 3. And tickets are expensive"
"buddha, we haven't seen you since may. We miss you."
"Why don't you come visit then?"
"Well, its always such a pain to fly over xmas"
