And that fundamental misunderstanding of the purpose of higher education is the root of many major problems facing our society today.
Exactly. I've seen a ton of entry level morons with so-called "real majors" who can't think their way out of a wet paper bag because, like with everything else in life, they need to follow the "cookbook" to get from point A to point B.

Technically, psychologists are PhDs who are also licensed therapists. I'll have a PhD in psychology but since my core of study is Organizational Development if would be disingenuous of me to call myself a psychologist. I'll be Dr. NoHo, but I will not be a psychologist.

B.S. - no. My major taught me that there is a right and a wrong answer to everything and anything. And there is no such thing as grey area or multiple correct answered. My major is right, confirmed by a statistic in job application in society, therefore your major is wrong and stupid. It is unnecessary and the funding for your department should be cut and the options for "non scientists" extinguished from society.
To add to my CSB/Hate, all my friends like this live to work. They move as their company directs and really have no (gasp...) "culture" to their lives. Guess where they live, the cultural mecca of Houston.

Yes, it's a bull shite major unless you plan on getting a doctorate. I use to use all my electives taking psych classes because they were all easy A's.

But they also made it to the entry level. A bachelors degree simply shows employers that you have the discipline to study and graduate and that is worth a great deal in this world. I also agree that college can be attended for self enrichment but most young students are not at that point in life and need to work in order to survive.

I'm not touching the cultural argument, though the same basic argument i outlined applies. Point is i have no problem with people that live like that.Great for them. I recognize their importance to society and props to them for chasing their dream. On the flip side the majority of then seem to have some ingrained hatred of me. As if the validity of their major and it's application to their life has any sort of relevance on my major and choices in life.

Is there something wrong with working as a plumber, electrician, mechanic, construction worker, salesman, warehouse worker, etc... Until you find what you want or move up in those industries? The way the majority of our society constantly shits on trade jobs and manual labor is insane.

Yep. And the way that the college degree is becoming devalued because of diploma factories is also insane. If you're going to school in order to get a job, go to trade school, not a university.

Double majoring in Sociology and Psychology is just fine for my career after college. So that's false.

It can be. If you want to be able to do something that actually uses it, you will need a masters, and even then, it'll still be a tough haul. Anyone wanting to do something psych related, I would say plan on 10 years of study/work in the field past your freshman year of college before you actually get to make decent money doing what you went to school for.
