GOP should go after Women, not Minorties

full disclosure: shooting from the hip here, not a lot of research done on the #s

I believe women made up about 55% of the electorate and voted around 55% for Obama. So instead of trying to make inroads with blacks (laughable) or non cuban latinos (ie cave on immigration), why not just start appealing to women voters?

GOP cant survive as the old white guy party, which it most certainly has become. Young voters have now voted for Obama twice - thats an entire generation that will identify as a Democrat until they grow quite old.

GOP needs to find some smart, capable women aka not named Palin or Bachmann. Dump the should abortion be legal argument from ANY platform and focus on should the government PAY for it. Stand strong on immigration, find ways to make the ACA not completely horrible, and become competitive again.

Otherwise, the GOP will be shut out of presidential elections for the foreseeable future. And the only thing worse than the 2 party system - is a 1 party system.

I agree with this. The GOP needs to groom a sharp, successful business female. The nation will be ripe for it after the economic debacle that will be the last 4 years of the Obama administration. Drop the anti-abortion rhetoric and focus on equal opportunity/pay for women in the business world. The truth is if equal opportunity is a goal, we should have had a female President long before we elected a half black President; women make up a little over half of the population after all.

Looking at specific demographics is kind of missing the point for the Republicans.

The Republican message isn't really the issue, it's how they deliver the message. Instead of selling the power of the free market, most of the talk has been about the "leeches." That turns people in that 47% off almost instantly. We have millions of illegal immigrants here. Well we should deport those law breaking a-holes! Look at the reaction to issues on this board, the right appears to know they are correct and anyone who disagrees is clearly stupid and wrong.

The GOP still has a message that sells, but the party and right leaning media need to sell it better. Right now, it just looks like old dudes bitching about those young whipper snappers.

Won't work. Women are frightened by the concept of freedom. Govt = provider and protector.

the GOP needs to not freak the crap out. They lost a handful of swing states by 150,000 votes. Let's not go crazy here. They need a much improved ground game. This is their failure. They've been dismantled on election day the last two elections. They need to get a handle on the GOTV.

The liberals and media is trying to convince the GOP that they need to move more left to get more votes. Instead, the GOP needs to focus on putting up a Presidential Candidate that the GOP can rally behind. Then, rent every bus in every swing state and bring as many people to vote as possible.

agree but the OP was dead on. Woman are the right segment to target. Talk about economic issues, rape is not a winning conversation for repbulicans. But yet, they brought it up multiple times.

if newt was the best candidate, the republicans are 100% completely fricked. Newt has some great ideas but baggage coming out his ass, and all his mistress' arse and all his ethic violation's asses.

This is how women think:

Cut down the oak trees...

...for the children.

Single women would be a better focus if you are going to target women. The GOP has to realize contraception and abortion are relevant to their lives. You can be Pro-Life and show some understanding to the women in a position to decide to have an abortion or not. It's easy to get the impression the right believes women who have abortions do it like they go to a starbucks to get a cup of coffee. Approach the issue as finding ways to reduce abortion by making the issues that lead to abortions better. Don't have to change your position, but you seem interested in the problems that cause it.

I know most on here dislike Jon Stewart, but he did a segment last night on women and the election. Quite funny.

Regarding women and the electorate, they made up 53% of the electorate and supported Obama by an 11-point margin 55-44.

In Cali, they made up Women: 50% of electorate and voted for Obama 64% to 34% :yikes:

agree. Right now, the republicans give woman a reason to vote for democrats without looking at republican positions.

Take out abortion/contraception as an issue, and they will be more likely to consider republicans.

When are you GOP cheerleaders going to realize this doesn't work, no matter who you put up?

Face it, Bush had the most diverse cabinet in HISTORY, yet was successfully portrayed as a racist by the propogandists in the media.

In 2012, Repubs trotted out women, minorities and female minorities at their convetion, only to still be called "racists" and having a "war on women".

If you think any of this will work, you are wrong and have been proven wrong already. The media is running the show...

And if you think Repubs siding on immigration will work, think again. You think the media is going to allow Repubs to successfully reach out to Latinos without being called racists?

Look at the dumbfricks that post on this board from the left who STILL call republicans racists. Ask these morons what the Repubs have done to be proven as "racists". They can't/won't answer. The propoganda has worked, and Republicans are fricked forever. Deal with it.

Just to be clear I meant in the last set of primaries not overall.

Agreed. But he was the smartest and most qualified. Totally agree he was not electable though for the reasons you sighted....All I can tell you is I met him in person once and came away very impressed.

OK, let's take Lucy as the woman I know best. She doesn't particularly like Newt, Romney or any other candidate. She votes anti-Obama. She does have distinct preferences among GOP commentators. Her favorites in order:
1. Michelle Maulkin
2. Bill O'Reilly
3. Ann Coulter
4. Rush Limbaugh

I think romney trounced him on qualifications. I wasn't a fan of romney but he held an executive position, well multiple ones. Much more relevant than congress IMHO. Perry was probably more qualified too, same reason.

So you want the GOP to shed about 30% of the vote to gain maybe 10%?

Why do you think the GOP establishment keeps abortion in the platform? As evidenced by Mitt, they don't care about it.
