A sperm cell has life. An egg cell has life. "Life" is not the salient matter... personhood is.

I've heard them compare babies to parasites as well.
What do you mean by parasite? Be more specific. The human race is technically a parasite.

If the country votes abortion on demand, up to lets say, full birt, do you try to convince people its wrong and theyre committing murder or do you just respect their opinion and let them do what you believe is murder and stay out of it?
I see what you're saying now. I mean sure I'd argue with them if they wanted to debate about it, but their opinion is their opinion (opinions are like a-holes...etc.). I wouldn't call it murder either. If the US voted in a law that people could get abortions until birth, then that is what the majority wants and that is what the majority will get.

i see that idiotic meme every time this argument arises on here. it is not a difficult concept--it is a completely errant one.

true, but the discussion of it on here is totally circular (on both "sides")

Whatever gets you to your own opinion, use that.
So if it's my opinion, based on whatever I choose to consider, that Siamese Twins are not human or do not rise to some abstract level of 'personhood' in my mind, then it is not murder if I kill them? Your own personal concept of personhood does not define the inalienable human rights of the rest of mankind, and in no way gives you the right to deny them of those rights - such as the right to life.

ETA: the notion that they think science cannot be applied to the human body is complete and utter bull shite. The human body is a part of science.
The problem with your reasoning is that you will not win over people that are pro life for religious reasons. They believe that each person has a soul, and there is no evidence to suggest that the soul does not become a part of the body at conception. This is why their stance is any abortion is murder. As a scientist myself, I understand trying to rationalize developmental stages to determine at which point it is no longer a ball of cells. However, I still feel that abortion is wrong.

Does a Republican woman kill herself if her fetus was stillborn? Technically her body produced antibodies that combated the pregnancy and won. Her body performed an abortion...

Terrible logic. Prolife stands for protecting all life: from life until NATURAL death. Which is why I don't understand a so called prolifer that supports execution.

Comparing a baby to a virus. Classic.
It is a shitty comparison. It is about as intelligent as those who say gay marriage is a slippery slope that leads to legalizing polygamy and animal marriage.

There is also a new theory that after a fetus's sexual organ has fully formed, if male, the female body will produce excessive amounts of estrogen in order to balance hormone levels. This has been a very reliable explanation as to why some men are homosexual. Women's bodies turn babies gay. Do we kill all of the women to combat the gayness?
