Oh, some of his supporters are definitely Marxist. I know one now who is a real die-hard (she claims not to support Obama b/c he is too moderate but of course voted for him anyway).
It doesn't matter b/c Congress makes the laws.

Think about that quote for a minute, and see how that line of thinking could apply here. Just because a lot of Marxists and Marxist states have failed miserably does not mean that there is zero merit in discussing what it is that Marx wrote.
Marx was a philosopher. He wasn't a politician. If you read what he wrote from a philosophical standpoint, then it raises a lot of great and interesting questions. If you read it as a prescription for the ills of government then, well...

ETA: Marx also wrote that the only way to accomplish this was via violent revolution, so really the policies of a democratically elected government led by well-connected and established millionaires is pretty far from Marxist.

I choose to call Obama a Communist. But if you'd like to call him a Marxist or a Socialist that's fine with me. He believes in the subjugation of the individual to the collective. He believes in a totalitarian state unfettered by the restrictions of the Constitution.
