re: Planned Parenthood Debates Personhood

quote:

The mindset we see from these people is a direct result of this country losing it's Christian principles as the bedrock foundation that our moral code is based on and replacing it with the supposed greater wisdom of science (a.k.a mankind).

An excellent development.

Yes, that is what politics is. Formulating your own stance through your experience and beliefs.

Do you believe it's okay for different people to set their own stage of human development as gaining the right to life?

Yes... people are entitled to their opinions.

Whether or not those opinions are worthy ones is a different question.

The question then is how do you measure it?

Let's say I believe the second fertilization occurs, a human life is made and should have the right to life. Next person says heartbeat, next says viability, next says birt, next says language skills, one says motor skills, one says puberty. Where does it end? And how do you legislate that?

this is not shocking given the eugenics roots of PP and its founder Margaret Sanger.

If there were a "right wing" institution with these roots, it would be shut down as a hate organization. But it is a bastion of tolerance for the statist left.

eta--i bet they were having this same conversation:

Probably so. It's amazing how easy it would be to get away with hate crimes by simply claiming inhumanity. Hasn't this happened before though? Oh yeah, the Indians, the Jews, African-Americans... Now fetuses. It never ends

That's not what he asked.

Do you think it is moral and just for each person's actions to be judged based on their own "opinion" (or even based on a particulate majority view for that matter)?

Or would it be better to use reason and moral judgement to determine things?

In our country? By our Constitution and by vote.

Whatever gets you to your own opinion, use that.

Right. Your personal line in the sand. But what if someone else disagrees and says that full birth is what signifies human life. Do you allow that to happen?

No, that's their opinion. Just because someone doesn't agree doesn't mean it shouldn't be respected.

If the vote doesn't go your way, let's say it votes that murder is illegal past whatever your cutoff point is. Do you just take it or fight for those that you believe are being unrightly murdered?

I don't think I asked clearly. If the country votes abortion on demand, up to lets say, full birt, do you try to convince people its wrong and theyre committing murder or do you just respect their opinion and let them do what you believe is murder and stay out of it?

Abortion opponents have every right to fight for ending abortion.

Alright. So are you set in your stance on where life begins or would evidence sway you towards knocking it back to an earlier point?
