Fatman you voted for him, so at this point you own whatever shite comes down the pike, enjoy the pain and suffering that it will entail. For the next four years look at the moron in the WH and pat yourself on the back.

There is an obvious explanation. All those people who were discouraged and gave up job seeking now have hope since Obama was re-elected. They are out there looking for work again. This is a positive sign. Forget about the fact that they gave up before while Obama was President, that was Bush's fault. Now everything has changed for the better. Of course it will mean that pesky unemployment rate will have to be reported at over 8%, but who really pays attention to meaningless statistics like that. If it was important wouldn't the media have reported about it or asked the candidates to comment on unemployment rates? If you happen to know any of those 439,000 let them know that there are urgent opportunities for people with gift wrapping skills available at the local mall to tide them over for the holidays.

I can tell you that you are flat out wrong. I work as a product support rep for the Caterpillar dealership in Alabama. I cover a territory that consists of the entire northern half of the state. I have general construction, forestry, quarry, paving, concrete, and manufacturing customers. Needless to say, my customer base is very wide and covers a broad spectrum of small to mid-sized business. In the months leading up to the election I heard business owner after business owner tell me the same thing. "We've got to get him out of office". The massive costs of Obamacare, the massive burden of an ever growing list of regulations, the specter of raising taxes, the uncertainty of the next anti-business move from Obama. All these things work together to make business owners sit on what little money they have and prevents them from investing in anything unless they just absolutely have to. And it's not just business owners in Alabama who say this. My job brings me into contact with guys from Cat dealerships all over North America. I talk to guys from all four corners of the US. They all are hearing the same thing from their customers. Whats worse is these same business owners also said going into the election that they were ready to start investing, start new projects, start hiring if a pro-business attitude was seen coming from Washington. The best way this could have happened was to elect Romney and give the Senate to Republicans. This is not Fox propaganda, this is coming straight from the mouths of the actual job creators themselves. But instead of getting Obama and the dems out, the American people put them back in. Now we are learning the true meaning of the phrase "elections have consequences".

Wait for the revised numbers. They will *have* be lower this time because they have been upwardly revised for something like 90 weeks in a row. The statistical odds of that happening must be in the septillions Nothing to see here little citizens. The State would never fudge numbers.

The sub-8 number was never meant to be interpreted as good. Rather, it was meant to indicate things were moving in the right direction and, as such, we should allow the status quo to continue that momentum. The post-mortem was essentially: the American people decide to give Obama more time. That additional time was viewed as necessary given the improving economic data. If things begin to crumble again (they will), we'll have been officially hoodwinked as an electorate.

Have you searched and see what Fox News and other sites said about it. Missouri's Jobless claim went UP after the Joplin Tornado and our town is only 50,000, only about 10,000 was affected, maybe a little more. And our damage was only a little over 6 miles long, one mile wide. Now imagine what's going on on the EAST COAST(Millions of people), large population centers being affected by floods, downed power lines, homes destroyed, etc. Yes our country Jobless claim will go up. DUH. It took some parts of our town of 50,000 over a month to get electricity. You can't go to work if your job don't have electricity! Can't go to work if your JOB is completely destroyed, etc. Think people. Even Fox News is not blaming Obama.

The poster makes a valid point. I decided to look around. Empire Manufacturing General Business Conditions
quote:
The General Business Conditions expected six months forward dropped to its lowest level since March 2009. What is perhaps worse, given the focus on jobs jobs jobs, is that for the first time since April 2009, the employment outlook for employment turned negative - suggesting firms are looking to reduce employees at the fastest rate in over three-and-a-half years.
LINK Philly Fed
quote:
Let's see if Bush Sandy can be blamed for not only the Empire Fed, whose employment and expectations components plunged, for the Initial Claims, which soared and missed expectations by the second most in the past 13 years, but also for the Philly Fed, which just plunged from 5.7 to -10.7, far below consensus of 2.0, the 6th miss of the last 8 (except for last month of course), and returning to solidly negative territory after last month's "miraculous" pre-election surge. And while virtually all subcomponents plunged, the one that stood out to the upside was Prices Paid, as the margin collapse is set to ravage all companies not only in the greater Philadelphia region but everywhere else soon as reality, deferred for the duration of the Obama reelection campaign, slams everyone in the stomach.

Elections do have consequences. The voters in these two states were counting on Obama. The businesses were waiting to see who won, and are now reacting to deal with the reality. If a warning could have been issued to let the voters/employees know what the consequences would be, it may have saved their jobs, and saved the country from the coming pain.

You seem to like research! Which is GREAT! Run yourself a search on Sweden. Start from the mid 1800s to when they turned to a Socialist country. Then compare their economic growth prior to their turn to Socialism to their economic growth through the beginning of the 90s... say 1995ish. Key research points.. taxes and welfare under those 2 periods. Then research the current policies. You should see a trend! I can summarize for you if you would like...? Up to you.

Continuing claims, which are filed by those out of work for more than a week, soared by 171,000 to 3,334,000 in the week ended November 3. That leaves this measure of unemployment at levels unseen since July 2008, just prior to the start of the U.S. financial crisis. Read more: LINK
