Damn dude, you just ruined my affection for the consumption of salted roasted peanuts. Please go back and change that part of your post so I can get that mental picture out of my mind.

Funny how all the economic news suddenly turned positive in the last few weeks before the election and soon as it was over everything just went to shite virtually overnight. Hope all the idiots who voted for Obama enjoy the next four years. Like someone already said in this thread, we've got dark days ahead and this is only the beginning. The coming recession will make the last one look like a walk in the park.

Just gets better: Hawaii, Oregon and Puerto Rico didn't report claims data, causing the Labor Department to estimate their totals.

he did a shitty job of it. 8% unemployment isn't something to write home about. I hope this is a temporary blip, but i fear its not.

Not only is it not a "temporary blip", it was seen coming from a mile away if Obama was reelected. Company after company flat out said that if Obamacare were not repealed they were going to have to cut hours, cut benefits, and cut jobs. So what does the American public do? We reelect Obama like a bunch of idiots. We made our bed now we're going to have to sleep in it.

439,000 more jobless isn't a big deal? You serious? I'm sure the people that just lost their jobs would tell you to frick off.

Did you read my link from FOX. ETA: After the Joplin Tornado our jobless claims went waaaaaaay up. A LOT of businesses destroyed. Now imagine what's going on on the east coast. Not hard to figure out. A lot of sites explain what's going on.

compared to real rates of 15 to 23? per different sources? LINK It was knocked down to 7.9 before the election for a reason. I take it you missed the thread here that ran the numbers and they did not add up.

I know some people are out of work because of Sandy but does that qualify them for unemployment? Also, wouldn't Sandy have created jobs that might offset jobs lost?
I think you will see those jobs come in next month. Through last weekend there were large parts of the shore that residents could only return to their houses for a few hours at a time to recover belongings. Cleanup in those areas started last week and major construction probably won't begin until at least next week or the week after. Since the major islands along the beach are closed off, those employees could probably expect to not get back to work until late Spring. Granted some may be seasonal workers who would have been laid off in December anyway.

Thank you. Give it a month or two. It'll take some time to recover. We know first hand, still recovering! A simple yahoo or google search explains...

I am not sure I agree. I think the president has a verylow impact on near term economic activity, and only a middling effect on long term economic activity.

sure but the real unemployment rate discrepancy has been there for years. u6 hasn't cracked under 12% since clinton.

I saw it and don't believe it. They cook the books but they did it by creating U6. I wouldn't trust a bureaucrat to fix anything if I was obama.
