I'm like you, spend about a month researching & pricing out. When I bough my Pilot, I went to one Honda dealer here in BR because they were having a "sale;" they weren't willing to deal, so I left. I emailed Shreveport (huge Honda dealership); they were better and wanted to work with me. Finally, tried the second Honda place in BR which had the particular one I had priced out originally & was the one I wanted.
The guy started off being an arse saying people pay more for Honda bc it's Honda. I told him this person wasn't going to. Went in to talk to the sales manager who wasn't being receptive, so I told him I would go to Shreveport to get it & walked out. He ran after me asking what was it worth to me to buy locally because of convenience. I laughed, shook my head, & walked off again. He came after me again, this time without the arrogance. I got a better deal than what Shreveport offered by $3,000, which shocked me. Financed it through them for their lowest APR at the time which pissed off the finance guy when he saw the bottom line selling price. 
Anyway, congrats on the Escape! 
You're right, it pays to do your homework.

Why, yes, of course.
I always tell folks to buy a CPO car, particularly BMW, that is backed by a manufacturer warranty, not an after-market carrier.

probalem is that i dont think you can get that 2011 for less than 30K off a used car lot
