If this is about costs, then if it is not profitable end the program. If it is a public health issue, offer treatment plans. If this is just a revenge, you test because I test, then it is stupid to run the program if unprofitable.

I don't often say this; but you're stupid.

I have NO right to dictate whether a company gives a shite if it's employees use drugs or not. I have EVERY right to care if people who get benefit from taxpayer money use drugs or not.

This is about more than saving money in the short term.

Why? You actually think this will be a cost saving measure?

Absolutely. Drug tests are cheap. The percentage of positive tests would not have to be very high at all to save a ton of money.

Then again, once you factor in the need for a new "Drug Test Czar" (likely some liberal dip shite with a shady background), a Department of Drug Testing, unionized government drug testers, and brother-in-law contracts, it may not save money at all.

Should we breathalyze them too?

Maybe you should do some research on this.

Ok. I'll bite.

Please explain why each drug test (urine sample only) would cost more than $30-40, particularly if handled at a state level. And consider that a single positive drug test saves MANY months of benefits payment to an individual.

Ask Florida. Their program (which used 30 dollar tests) cost the state 45k AFTER discontinuing benefits to the 2.6% of recipients who tested positive.

I tend to agree with this. I have no issue with the concept, but if it costs more than it saves it should be ditched.

I guess the conservatives who like to run gov't like a business, don't know much about business.

This. Conservatives act like liberals when it comes to programs they like, regardless if it makes economic sense.

I think your results would be extremely disappointing.

In Florida, the testing was done by a company owned by the family of Republican Governor Rick Scott.

Not to mention the narrative of a bunch of welfare recipients sitting around doing drugs and living the good life is completely false.

Your above post isn't factual. Stick to the gambling threads.

It's hypocrisy at its finest when you liberals complain that the program will not save money. Seriously with all the money this country pisses away you take issue with that couple billion??? The fact is the people shouldn't be doing drugs on taxpayer dimes. If they are they should be forever prohibited from government funds. And then you liberals complain that they can't get jobs because they have felony records. How about people not obtain felony records? It's really not a difficult concept. I mean my dog understands that if he shits in the house he will get his arse beat. Guess what? He doesn't shite in the house!

I ain't a liberal. I am a true small government conservative who doesn't believe in creating more government to disqualify a handful of people.

Folks who want to drug test these people are closer to liberals than you are libertarians.

Wasn't meant for you roger. I understand your position and in the perfect world that would be great. But in reality we have a ton of people on the government tit and theyre multiplying by the min. If we can throw a few billion at it and get some of the deadbeats of the tit It's money we'll spent.

My bad, but it was linked to my post.

My solution is to end welfare, unemployment.

Fox News bitches that letting certain tax cuts expire will "only" raise $700 billion over 10 years, so they aren't worth it, but funding $1 million to NPR should be cut because "every little bit adds up." Both sides do this.

quote:

The fact is the people shouldn't be doing drugs on taxpayer dimes.

So should ANYONE getting money from the government be tested? All government employees, politicians, everyone that works for companies with a government contract, etc?

So someone that gets busted for felony posession of say 1oz when they were 19 should have to pay for it even when they are 50 and haven smoked in 31 years?

BTW...beating your dogs arse is a felony in most states.

re: Texas to begin drug testing for welfare/unemployment benefits

I actually disagree with you on this Roger. If drug addicts are receiving welfare type shit, why should I pay for it? If they can't stay clean, frick them getting tax payer money.

I will say weed should not be illegal and part of the test BTW.
