I got a box of Padron 3000 with 25 cigars for like $150 with a free Padron ashtray from thompsoncigars.com 2 weeks ago This is a good deal. Search that site for the deal

Go to JR.com and buy some Consuegras from Honduras. These are bundled "seconds" of the old Honduras American Tobacco, S.A. (HATSA) factory, their brands include: Punch, Hoyo de Monterrey, El Rey del Mundo, Excalibur, Belinda, among others. All VERY solid, good cigars. The Consuegras or "Connies" as we in the cigar forum world call them, are damn good cigars at decent pricing.
Don't want to buy good Padron Anniversarios, or Ashton, or Diamond Crown, among others for amateur or non-smokers. Just not smart.

They've been known to bait and switch in the past.
You'll get a catalog, and there'll be a deal for five packs of five premium brands and a free humidor or something like that. Or even just the fivers, so guys call and order, and *poof* sorry, we're out of this brand and that brand. We'll replace them with our house brand "Caribbean Rounds" and "Cohete del Perro" (Dog Rocket) instead.
THEN charge you the same price for their brands as the premium brands.
There are better vendors with better prices. T. does a great job with advertising in magazines and such, though.

Check with your local guy, first. If they're good, friendly, helpful, etc. buy from them. They need the business, in most cases.
If not, try:
Smoke Inn, they seem to be quite service-oriented, from what I hear from friends who order a lot.

Fail those, the giants of online retailers:
JR Cigars
Cigars International
Holts.com
Famous-Smoke.com
SeriousCigar in Houston
Payless Cigars (if they're still in business.) They have a B&M store in Place St. Charles in New Orleans, but don't give you their internet prices if you walk in the shop.

Fwiw I do like supporting local business when I can, but I am a college student. So I'm not gonna blow an extra $30 if I don't have to. I hope his prices are fair so I can give him some business. Thanks to you and all the other posters who provided solid guidance. I appreciate it.

La Flor Dominica cigars can be found in most any cigar shop. These are just as good as any Cuban I've smoked.
Do not buy any cigars until right before the event. You do not have the equipment to keep or store them correctly and they don't keep well outside a humidor.
The double ligero is my favorite by far.
As with what others have said, most any good cigar shop can point you In the right direction and you can get really good cigars for 15-30 a piece with sme price break for a box or more.
Unless the recipients are regular smokers they won't appreciate the money you spend. Any cigar will work for people who don't know.

Short answer: There's no shortage of web tutorials on how to commit this particular federal crime.
Yes, they are better, overall. No, most folks will not be able to tell. For 70%, they just don't have the experience or palate to differentiate-- and almost all of the rest are able to find very worthy substitutes that fit their flavor preferences and profiles from elsewhere, to the point where having a reliable Dominican or Nicaraguan brand satisfies them at least as well.
It's really not worth the risk, or the inconvenience. You can have a much broader range of cigar experience for the same money, and maybe find something that really suit you without violating the law.

I'd say some are better, some aren't. As far as good Domenicans, La Flor Domenicana has been mentioned, and I agree they are great. If you want something lighter, I really like Davidoffs. They're probably overpriced, but I love the light hay and honey flavor.

Like others have said, many other good ones (some already mentioned) that are great and you'll probably not know any difference.
But if Cuban is really wanted, it's not difficult. Do you have any friends in the UK or Canada? It's easier than you think. Or so I've heard

Dominicans are as good as any thing out there right now. I have bought some in the airport in Cuba that were rolled right in front of me that were pretty nice. Try cubancigars.communist
