1. The Golden Band from Tigerland
2. Student Section
3. Night Games coupled with All Day Tailgating
4. Fan ENTHUSIASM for our team
5. Architecture of stadium forces noise to the field level
6. Crowd on 3rd and Long
7. Long term success
8. September heat

I loved Dan Borne's poem last year about Tiger Stadium for the tickets and the pre-game video. Brings chills.

Remember that the Bear said it was like playing inside a drum - and that was before the east and west side extensions were added.

True. LSU has only lost 12 games in Death Valley since November, 1999 (7 by Miles).
Of those, 1 was a fluke (UAB)
3 were in OT (Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama)

LSU hasn't lost consecutive home games since 2001 (Florida and Ole Miss)
Miles has only had 1 2-game losing streak - 2008 Ole Miss and Arkansas

I think it is mainly that we play mostly at night. Tiger Stadium really got its reputation back in the late 60's and early 70's.

Bullseye.
That stadium except on rare occasions isn't what it once was. Mostly because a lot of the seating on the sideline is no longer used by the real tiger fans, and if you leave at halftime, chances are you didn't make much noise when you were there in the first half.

The only true answer: the unique passion of the Louisiana populace. LSU fans possess an inherent abandon, a wildness, a fierceness of spirit that simply isn't encountered anywhere else in the nation. I know, I've spent my life looking for it. Occassionally, I'll stumble upon it on a dance floor at 2 AM: that pure buzz, that unfettered joie de vive, total unaccountable energy. But it's fleeting and artificial there. By contrast, an ungodly number of people in Louisiana naturally possess that energy all day, every day. Every instant is a celebration of life. Every occassion is an excuse for a party. Every day joys.

It's beautiful. And rare. It's unlike the ethos you'll find anywhere else in the United States. And that's why I'll go to such lengths to protect it against usurpers like corporate season ticket holders and teetotallers and grumpy old blue-hairs who want the entire stadium to sit and golf clap.

If you've spent your life in common society, bound by common convention, oppressed by somber expectations and lifeless conversation, passing boring pleasantries, half awake, your first Tiger Stadium experience is akin to sudden liberation, a mainline of life's best drug. That's why visitors rave.
:sniffle: :eyeswater: That's so beautiful...

the atmosphere around and in tiger stadium FOR BIG GAMES is unbeatable. the tailgating, the crazy tailgators, the whole experience is as good as it gets. then the game itself in the stadium with the pageantry and loud, loud, loud noise. then a live tiger and of course, the golden girls. nobody has the golden girls man.

I must be missing something.

From reading responses in this thread it seems other stadiums dont yell as loud as possible when their defense is on the field?

I'm being serious, I've only been to Tiger Stadium never any other big sports venue. Is it normal?

I took my wife's 20 year old cousin to his first LSU game on Nov 3. He's from Iowa and his only college football experience was Iowa State. Midway through the first half he turned to me and said "This is awesome! Now I understand why you do this every Saturday."

Things like that make the place special to me.

FSU's dance team are called the Golden Girls, but being a realist, that I am, the exterior of Tiger Stadium is a dump, plus if TS was so great, then why did Bama own us at our place for over 18 years. The mystic of TS is a myth. Go to a Florida home game and come back and say that BHG stadium is not loud. Hell, Auburn is loud. TS looks like a dump. The only stadium that looks worse than TS is Tennessee's. That place looks like a giant erector set. I hate Bama, but BDS is a showcase.

I like "skirt and boot alley"... Go to the 0-20 yard line on the lower north west side...You can walk up the aisle and see hundreds of chicks in boots and skirts who absolutely love Tiger football with a passion. That is as good as it gets, and I've been to over 30 big time college football stadiums.

1. Us, the fans
2. Energy level emitted into the night humid air ( remember proximity to river) by see #1 above.
3. Tailgating all day to properly prepare both mind and stomach
4. Because many of us (#1) started going to games as kids (1960 my first game) and have lived it and breathed it from parents, relatives, and friends for decades. We continue the traditions of tailgating, watching the band then team come down the hill, Mike coming out of his cage, his stadium parade, then parking by the visiting team entrance.
5. Some things are hard to explain but you can't live without!

Visitors cannot believe the three ring circus that is an all day event at LSU called Game Day in Death Valley. As many of you have mentioned visitors and media that come for the first time are amazed at every thing they see leading up to the game then the game normally presents intense drama or complete satisfaction.

The media loves it because Death Valley never disappoints the TV audience.
