| How long has Ted Mosby's kids been sitting on the couch listening to him talk? (Posted on 11/13/12 at 4:17 pm)
That's the most unrealistic part about the show. How are the kids able to listen to Ted talk for hours upon hours without getting fed up especially since their mother is only mentioned in passing for most of the story? What kid wants to hear their parents rattle on for hours about the experiences they had with their friends before you were born? I just don't understand how the kids have been so patient with Ted.

I don't think everything they show is being told to the kids.

I great theory I heard is that Ted is in a mental institution and everything is a breakdown. he imagines his kids and this life and only Marshall ever comes to see him, ha. And Jason Segal has said he told the producers he wanted to last episode to pan to the window next to the kids and show a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and once the story is over the kids have to pick up their weapons and defend the house against the hordes. both of them i like.

Not to mention he constantly tells his kids about past sexual encounters. I don't know about most of you, but I definitely would not want to hear about that from a parent.

Yeah. Pot is "sandwiches", but Barney deep dicks the island of Manhatten and that's clear as day info...

There have been 165 episodes. An average episode is right around 22 minutes, so that would mean that they have been to this story for 60 hours and 30 minutes (and still counting). Ted has talked to his kids for two and a half days straight.

Even if you cut it down to five minutes to tell the story of each episode, that's still close to 14 hours. Assuming he's spreading the days out to tell the story, the kids would have to be listening to him for two weeks straight with an hour of talking each day. It's completely ridiculous. And I couldn't agree more with kmcmah1 and Fletch. Ted's censoring certain parts of the story for his kids yet he doesn't seem to mind telling his kids about all of his friends (and Ted's) sexual history i.e. Barney's list of 200+ sex partners. It's another part of the story that doesn't make any sense.

Of course it's "ridiculous" to do it over the course of 2 weeks, it could easily be something that he has done every day after school for an entire semester for 15 minutes a day, or one day a week for an hour.
