That's like saying Dwight's value is the garbage Orlando got . . . no . . . they are getting a higher draft pick and cap space, and what they do with those they HOPE is worth it. Sound familiar?

Fair enough, the big difference is Howard had much more influence and was dictating terms. They tried to trade him a bunch of times, but he would never agree to an extension. To my knowledge, this wasn't the case with Anderson. He wanted to get paid and alot of teams thought that he wanted too much money or was a product of Orlando's system (living off Howard).

Let's not act like the Hornets got the jump on everybody. Anderson was on the block and Orlando got the best deal it could. I can't keeping saying this enough, I like Anderson and he is a good player. He's not getting traded. But there is nothing wrong with projecting value or pondering who they could get. Biyombo doesn't feel a need and he would be redundant. But value for value, it's not outlandish or a reach.

re: Gerrity would trade Anderson for Biyombo
This is exactly why the situation for restricted free agent Anderson was similar to that of expiring Dwight. The levels of material in the trade is necessarily different, but the relative value teams got in return is not measured solely by the player haul.

Not getting into the rest of the trade talk.

Yes it is, and you sound more and more like an idiot every time you repeat it.

This is a reach. Anderson had a great year last year and he should be a solid player. But he isn't going to start for the Hornets (barring injury) and will be a role player.

Fail. Look up Anderson's Per 36 for the last 3 years. He is 18 and 8 every night. Look at his ORating for the last 3 years- he is top 3 in the NBA with Paul and Love. Look at his PER- 20 the last 3 years, which is borderline All-Star. His MIP was a bit of a stretch.

He is not a number one scorer on any team. But he is a legit piece for a contending team, not a role player. Starter or not, he will play 30+ mpg and he is a part of the core of the franchise.

I would add that I do not think Hornets247 is an authority on anything. I think it's a place for passionate people to learn, work, and share the fruits of their labors. The body of work should stand on its own, for good or ill.

I agree with much of what you say.

And I'm not eager to engage in a battle about the site. As I said, I appreciate and admire the work you all do.

Whether y'all want it or not, the ESPN affiliation gives the site more weight, especially since local coverage is poor. You are the main source of in depth analysis for locals and for a national outlet. That spotlight demands high quality writing and analysis from anyone under the banner. I want to see 247 produce the kind of writers who get picked up by SI, CBS, or the NYT. I want guys from there become "must reads" for all basketball fans, not just Hornets fans. Mix the obvious passion with deep, quality insights.

If Joe is trolling, he needs to grow up. If he sincerely believes that Biyombo is a better bet than Ryan Anderson then he should do a post on it and explain why he is taking this stand. Let us see if that opinion can hold water in long form, not 140 characters.

All of that is appreciated as well-thought-out criticism. I'm not going to `defend' or `attack' another writer with respect to how things should be done.

I really just wanted to make that ownership thing clear, since it is perhaps confusing. Then when someone was confused further, I explained why I brought that up, and how authority, I thought, was part of why I thought you meant he owned Hornets247. Then I just added my own thoughts about authority. I know you did not bring it up initially.

I happen to feel there is a public trust the site is a steward of, and I take that quite seriously.
r
I do think we have the same goals for the site.

If I may ask, why was it assumed he owned the site and not another writer or even an outside party?

projecting value is great, but this guy has shown nothing. It would be huge gamble to trade one of your best young players for a target like this.

you trade a 2nd round pick and gamble on Biyombo. Or a non lottery pick. Or a young draft pick that hasnt shown much.

you dont trace proven legit NBA scoring big man for this dude. you are so clueless

Anderson was traded about 3 months ago for Ayon straight up. That is the value that the league put on him.

You just lost whatever argument you were trying to make with this statement. As 42 said, it obvious that the circumstances of that trade was not equal value for equal value.

I was confused. I thought that Gerrity bought it and 247, but you have said otherwise on here many times.

It's all a bunch of nonsense, for sure.

No worries. You're top shelf.

re: Gerrity would trade Anderson for Biyombo
Gerrity tries to come off as an expert, but he just is not there yet. He seems to be taking the Holder/Mackel approach of taking the "shock" or "surprise" position on a boom or bust player like Bismack so that he can later say he was right if he should develop. Gerrity is auditioning for a job in the media and wants to show his knowledge but steps a little too far over the edge sometimes exhibiting the fact that he is not quite there yet.

re: Gerrity would trade Anderson for Biyombo
In Biyombo's defense..he is not as horrible as you might believe. His offense is horrid and is above average defensively all while playing on a horrible team last year and being 19.

To show why people are excited about this guy, though maybe a little too excited, is because of his play against Dwight Howard on multiple occasions last year.

10 pts, 15 boards, 7 blocks
LINK

11 pts, 10 boards, 4 blocks
LINK

Though he is not better than Anderson currently the gap between the two may not be as large as some believe.

Just trying to be objective.

I think everyone agreed with this much.

Did you watch the video? Almost none of his highlights were against Howard . He had 2 blocks and scored 2 times on Howard in 9 minutes of youtube footage. The rest was him blocking Reddick, Anderson, Big Baby, Nelson, Richardson and grabbing loose rebounds.

Howard went 15/17/2 one game and 25/17/4/4 the 2nd game.

Biyambo could be a great player. But the gap is pretty large right now. In my opinion, of course.
