Appreciate input from anyone that's been. Things to do, see, places to eat, etc. What about skiing in the area? TIA

there are small runs just across the water. Whistler is awesome skiing, about 45 miles north, and I agree the drive there is worth it by itself. Stanley park is cool, you can walk over all the bridges which is pretty cool (can do this near the point at Stanley park). Lots of outdoor activities - hiking climbing, etc. Great sushi at great price. Take rain clothes.

Its not too cold, just wet. I went in summer but a few of the things I really enjoyed were: Take the mini ferry to Granville island (It is like 5 minutes from the west end) a farmers/flea market, some cool shops and restaurants there. If you are up for it rent bikes and bike around Stanley Park, we did it in a light drizzle and it was really fun, not too many people on the paths and very scenic. Also Gastown is the historic district (and heart of the Stanley Cup riot a few years back). Awesome seafood and ethnic foods there. Just an all around awesome city, would be even better in summer time but still great. Also, Victoria is gorgeous there are tons of ferries over there and a trip to Whistler in winter if you are into snow sports. Have fun!

I went there for a week in February, and the only things I can really remember are: A) It was surprisingly mild (around 40-45 degrees low to high the whole week, drizzling most of the time) B) The sushi was incredibly cheap. I was there for work and was swamped, so I didn't get to do much. eta: I stayed across the bay from downtown and when I was driving back across to get to the airport, I remember the skyline was very cool as well.

Ah another note. It is expensive right now, the canadian dollar is nearly on par with the American but prices aren't comparable. A six pack of beer was running me about 9-10USD... pretty standard unless you are down for Molson XXX. I also like their money... its funny when the bums ask if you can spare a "Loonie"

Be sure you don't bring back anything illegal, ie weed, Cuban cigars. US Customs can be dicks on reentering the country.

The city itself, yes. Grouse Mt across the bay has skiing, so does Whistler about an hour to the NE

Thanks for all the info, guys! Thinking we'll fly in/out Seattle. Stupid question, can I drive a rental car across border?

Yes you can, make sure you have all your passport information taking care of [obviously the border]. Another poster asked about whistler blackcomb so I'd recommend searching for his thread as well.

Blow, hookers, and pot. You're welcome. Can get all of this around Granville.

This is what we did when I went 2.5 years ago. It was 3 of us and we had a damn good time.

I've done this everytime I've gone to Vancouver since I was 14. The drive from Seattle to Vancouver is actually pretty fun and extremely beautiful.

Like it's been said....the ferry to Victoria is well worth it. We went many times; favorite was a drive up the coast stopping at several Native sites and on to the Old Growth Forest in the north. Buchart Gardens and a stop for tea at the Empress.... Funny to watch tourists with their rain gear. Everyone in the NW just gets wet and dries out; it's part of life.

I stayed at the Whistler Chateau Fairmont for a week in July. Perfection. I can't wait to get back.
