That happens with employer-provided health plans, too. People are generally insulated from the cost of their care.

How would insulating patients further from their healthcare costs decrease costs?

re: I Work In Healthcare

Here's the most obvious mistake in your post: Obamacare is NOT extended Medicare. It's extended PRIVATE INSURANCE.

I never said it was extended Medicare, due to the fact that Obamacare eats $716 billion of Medicare's budget. It is most certainly not private, by any stretch.

quote:

The FACT that Obamacare is not extended Medicare and that he's arguing as if Medicare reduces revenue for more patients, even when untrue and totally irrelevant, tells me that the O.P. is baloney

You are so detached from reality that I'm sad for you. Read carefully:

Medicare is reducing reimbursements because Obamacare is taking a giant chunk of Medicare's budget. The OP's company is not seeing reimbursement from Obamacare, and it is seeing significantly reduced reimbursement from Medicare (29.5% less in 2012 after substantial cuts in the last few years.)

I know this point will blow right past you, and that your next arguement will be the same as the first. You can't open your mind because you want to believe that the Cult of Personality you elected president has our best interest at heart.

It is NOT true that Medicare reimburses providers less for more patients.

I never said they reimbursed less for more patients. What I said was you have no idea how medical reimbursement works and why getting paid straight government run healthcare insurance would put a lot of people out of business.

My business has a 75/25 (government/private) insurance payer mix. I had to get a hospital guarantee at that mix because government insurance alone wasn't going to pay my bills. Some places have a higher payer mix and can absorb those Medicare/Medicaid patients but rural practices will struggle to stay open.

The Swede's have figured it out. This won't work. Not in it's current form. Taxing the highest rates will result in slow economical growth.... That create's a lack of funding and HIGHER national debt.

We are way past the point in national debt that the swedes started with.

FAILURE is what will happen.

Your way off in left field with this argument! It's about getting paid what your worth and not accepting less because some politician says so.

I get paid by Medicaid 45.00 dollars to put in an epidural and I have to pay my plumber 75-100 for a service call. You tell me what you would pay more for?

Also, has no one discussed the fact that on January 1st, 2014 employers with 50 or more employees will have to buy the government health insurance or pay a tax....err, I mean penalty?

re: I Work In Healthcare

What happens to those who pay the tax and don't provide health insurance to the employees? Is it incumbent upon the employees to get insurance? If they don't and need medical care, does the government reimburse the providers for the care and then go after the patient?

I never understood of how the enforcement concept is going to work. If anyone knows, please enlighten me.

First of all many of these stories are always pretty dubious. It's not like if we have single payer there just won't be any doctors.

Yes it will then be up to the employee who will also have the option to get insurance or pay a tax.

If they don't get insurance, their care won't be any different than it is today, they can go to the ER for an emergency and get that massive bill.

Your sentence makes no sense. The mandate states that a company with 50+ employees has to buy the government healthcare option or pay a penalty. No company is going to pay the penalty and provide their employees with private health insurance. They'll either pay for the more expensive health coverage mandated by the federal government or pay the less expensive fee to opt out and provide no insurance for their employees.

There is nothing there on which to further your arguement, which is why your sentence makes no sense.

and when employers pay the penalty leading to less insured as well as people paying the penalty....could it not hurt private companies...and put some OOB??

Then obama can step in a nationalize the whole thing saying "see i told ya this would not work in the private sector"

hmmnnn, yeah i wonder why Barack.

The end game. There are many in this country who refuse to see this.

Yes, that the government mandates. You realize that companies will no longer get to choose the health coverage for their employees, right? The government gives them some options (hence "Government Option") and the employers must choose from those or pay the penalty.

they buy them on a health exchange that has like multiple tiers of offerings from different competing private insurance companies
